I was wondering if anyone knows or have done the exhaust on a cbr WITHOUT taking all of the tail section off.  In other words just cut the pipe right behind the muffler and then just slip the new muffler on.

The 1000 tail section comes off a whole lot easier than a 600RR tails do, they are shorter. Dont be afraid to bend it (spread) it a little not alot just enough to get the right side to clear the subframe then it will lift right off, dont forget your 4 wires on the left side, hope this helps

I think I will give it a shot instead of having the dealer do another install and taking my leg.  I was just curious if you could just cut the pipe just behind the muffler and install with a clamp of some sort.  That way if you wanted to switch to another muffler it would be any easier thing to do.  And it wouldn't take a few hours just minutes.
