Is it that Bad Ass, or was he a Dumb Ass?

URRslow -> Is it that Bad Ass, or was he a Dumb Ass? (4/14/2007 10:15:46 PM)

Well folks I got my first kill.  I went out for a ride and I think this guy on a Suzuki GSXR 1000 must have weaved through some traffic because I didnt see him and all the sudden he pulls up next to me at the redlight.  We are sharing a lane on a three lane Hwy and he gives it a few revs.  now mind you this guy rolled up on a GSXR 1000 with an extended swing-arm, and I'd only had my bike for 6 days.  Well I'm not scared to lose so I give him a rev back since we have stretch in front of us.  Light turns green and we roll out and then he nails it, I nailed it at almost the same time and immediately I start walking him, I hit second and the lead just grows, by the time I go into third I'm starting to put some lengths on him and we are approaching traffic, I look down and I realize I'm doing 130 so I immediately hit my brakes and begin to slow down.  He keeps it going and proceeds to weave through traffic and disappears.

Long story short, I really thought that if somebody was going to put an extended swingarm on their bike and instigate races you would know what you are doing.  Should I have been able to walk him like that?  Or did he just suck at racing his bike?

I have a 2004 1000RR with just a Yoshi Pipe and a sprocket conversion.  Nothing else that I can tell.

He sounds like a meat head.  I'm pretty confident my 02 GSX-R 1000 bone stock will give your 1000RR a very hard time.  It has given a few the tail light.  But the rider is the problem so ..........it's hard to say for sure what his problem was.  Probably just dumb.  I usually try a roll from 45-50 in second just to eliminate rider error (for the most part) when comparing bike for bike.  Otherwise, from a dig it's all rider and he probably sucked.

Nice kill though.

yep, he was just big pimpin with a swingarm and didnt get it because he NEEDED IT he bought it for looks.... if he would have bought a extended for the right reasons he would have demolished you...

just my .02

Sounds like He maybe was on a 600.  Could You hear the rpms on His bike? Did He shift into 2nd before or after You? Did His bike come up at all? If it was a new GSXR it is very hard to tell between a 1000 and 600.

There are three guys that I have spent time riding with all with red/black 06 1000R and from 0 to 100mph I can beat two of them on my 636 and hang with the third one. Basically because they have to work the throttle and I can go wide open. after 100mph the 1000s start to run away. I have another friend with a 01 GSXR 1000 stretched, exhaust, pc3. from 0 to 100 Hell pull about 30 yards on me. On my 636 before I shift to second at WOT my front tire is about 2 inches off the ground with me on the tank. If You nail a 1000 in first Your on one wheel.

+1.. my buddy was putting down 10.4 in the 1/4 on his gsxr 1000 not stretched... he was running a 600 tail with 600 stickers on it for a while..[:D][:D]

It was definitely a 1000, and if I was guessing I would say 02-04 at the newest.  I looked at alot of bikes, mostly GSXR's and Honda's while hunting for my bike.

I think it had to be just a bad driver, I dont think I am using 80% of this bikes power, but I have figured out the sweet spot where I can really get into it while only popping the front tire so I can continue to lay into it.

I don't know what happened, its bike night again in Orlando tonight so we will see what happens tonight...

LOL.....that works for people that dont know what to look for.......it's all in the forks.  I've thought about it but my 02 is old enough that people think their new 600's will beat it just because it's 5 years old.  LOL.......it doesn't matter that it makes 140+ hp at the rear tire, it's old.  LOL. I love that stuff!!

Not meaning to be a jerk, prob was a 1000. If it was the older style it would be 2001 to 2003. 2004 is the current style. Hear is a pick of two stock 2003 GSXRs, both with 1000 tails on them but only 1 is a 1000.

Wow that picture has me second guessing myself.  I would say the top bike is a 1000 because it has the different graphics/decals and brakes.  If you told me they were both 1000's I would believe you though.

Well last night I played with three bikes, a 600RR and a GSXR 750 at the same time and I walked away from both of them, and I wlked the 750 worse than the 1000 the other night so I still believe I just came across a BAD driver.

Fun race- I raced a new looked like a 2007 GSXR 1000, still had the paper tag on it.  First light he toyed with me and tried to wheelie and beat me and I walked him, next light he wasnt messing around andhe walked me bad... I got killed by a better rider...  Oh well, I'm just glad I can atleast ride this bike well enough to fend off every 600 and 750, and Im not the WORST rider on the road. LOL

lee1rbc -> RE: Is it that Bad Ass, or was he a Dumb Ass? (4/20/2007 10:54:05 AM)

Correct, the one on the bottom is a 750. The best way to tell is by the front brakes, three pistons compared to two. Nice kills.

Speaking of getting walked I ran into a Stock 02 Busa, (talked with the guy after) and off the line he layed down a 15ft patch and I literely I ate His rubber. I better stick to the twisties. [:D]

Yeah great stories and all but start thinking about taking it to the track. Not trying to race everyone from light to light on the streets.

You would be surprised. At a drag track it is different. I have seen 600cc bikes smoke 1000cc bikes. Its knowing how to race not just twisting the throttle. Alot of people think there is no skill to drag racing. Ask anyone who has been to a track. It is not all that simple of a thing to do.

Honestly I have been in three races and they were all in this post, and all on Thursdays at "Bike Night" were I get caught up in the excitement.

This is my first street bike but I was into Mustangs before this and I had a 2000 GT that I S/C'd with all the basic bolt-ons and I ran that at the track.  Just enough fun to know I wanted something faster(and cheaper to make fast LOL)  And the nearest track is an hour away, each way, usually very crowded, so I dont go as often as I would like to.

I try to be responsible, drive normally, never pass on double yellow, etc.   But in the rare circumstances were I line up next to another bike at a red light I dont think I'll ever let the oppurtunity pass...

True enough.......but the 1000 also had the gold forks......much easier to see than the 4 piston vs 6 piston calipers at speed.......also the 1000 is an 02.......the 03 looks just like an 04 which is different.......they have stacked headlights similar to a Hayubusa.  The 750 is probably an 03 though.  They are all hard to tell apart these days with out KNOWING what to look for.....used to be inverted forks mean liter bike.....but not anymore.
