In my opinion, it all depends on where you live on how the cops will act toward people. Busy place cops pissed everyday and don't care about people. . . small town. . . crack down on more worthless crap, but also more nice.

I don't post very often I'm no keyboard commando. BUT, I would like to add something on the subject of law-enforcement bashing, and the support for them and the support for our military serving abroad. I fully support. Anyone who steps into Harmsway here or abroad . I have been duty station and have lived in some of the states with the most strict laws but I now find myself residing in a state which has fully earned its bashing or bad name . I'm speaking of the state of Georgia. The Atlanta Metro area Dekalb county has had a death or injury by officer involve shooting every 13 days over the last year.and it now has the FBI looking it to WTF is going on, And if you truly don't believe that law-enforcement harassment is not an equal opportunity employer. I suggest you visit one more county in the metro area, Cobb County. Especially precinct 2. I suggest you take a Friday night ride either on two wheels or four and make more than one trip down the parkway here. Especially towards the end of the month. I have no idea whether a quota really exists or not I will tell you from personal experience, having been stopped, more times that I can count just from being out on the highway around 11 o'clock at night. Now I've never been ticketed, nor have I ever been arrested. And I truly believe if I had not been on active duty. I would have probably been ticketed or jailed.for no reson other then to genrate revenue I HAVE THE UP-MOST RESPECT FOR ANYONE WHO DOES THEIR JOB WELL !! But it isn't police bashing. IF , it's just the truth. I would like to paraphrase from a great and wise American. It Is Better to Have Them Wonder Why You Did Not Speak Then Have Them Wonder Why You Spoke at All Abraham Lincoln

Great valid points. Essentially not so bright people call your friend for ridiculous reasons who waste his time, taxpayers dollars and at times endanger his life. Frankly I've never understood the appeal to becoming a policeman. At times very dangerous and so so pay. All of us have had unpleasant times with the police and all of us have run into very kind and helpful police but also officers that abuse their power which makes all police look bad. My ex's brother was a Lt. with the local PD. Great guy, joined to make a difference. Never saw him abuse his power but I did see a couple of his officers act like total asses. One of them game me ticket while I was jogging during lunch with a friend. I'm halfway across when it flashes don't walk, the officer on bike tells me to go back, I looked at him and kept jogging. He comes after me on his bike and gives me an $18 ticket for not obeying the flashing don't walk sign. Tell me, what do you think of this officer?

I have a buddy who is a cop. He has a policy.....He says he doesn't give tickets to tax-payers........point is, Is that if he pulls you over for a busted tail-light or rolling through a stop, he really doesn't care about the stop or the light, he wants to know who you are, what you have in the car and where you are going. Many times he'll pull a guy over for something stupid, and all checks out, two car seats in the back of some POS, hes not gonna give a 200$ ticket to some working class dude trying to feed his family. BUT, when folks do really stupid you damn well know better stuff, like ridin a wheelie down main street, hes gonna give you a ticket or worse for being such a dumb-ass. If he rolls up on someone stuntin in a lot or practicing stand-ups on a lonely stretch of road, he'll advise you to be safe, and break things up but thats it. Hes after guys in the big picture, drugs, weapons, warrants and so on. Hes a cool guy, and as far as getting busted, well, you play, and sometimes you gotta pay.

I have met more bad coppers than good ones, I have a Ex-Police officer as a cousin and he is a complete dick. Because I feel persecuted by the Police and even though I am not doing anything wrong I always tense up when they are about, I can’t help but suspect that they will pull me over and go over my bike with a fine tooth comb and try to give me the maximum reprimand for a minor or non-existent infraction. I was banned for 12 months and had to re-take my bike test because of a slightly thinning front tyre, the copper booked me for Dangerous Driving what should be reserved for people who threaten the lives of other road users by dangerous driving, I lost my licence and could not get to work so I lost my job and that meant I could not pay the rent so I had to move out of my flat, all the stress caused me to break up with the girl I was going out with since school and I took to drinking heavily to numb the senses, I was only 18 it could have ruined my life. My lawyer advised me that the copper had used the Dangerous Driving (DD40) law because it carries a Custodial sentence so if I challenged and lost a court case I would end up in prison for a possible 3 years; it was not worth the risk so I pleaded guilty like the copper knew I would. Anyway I now got a new girlfriend, Bike, job and flat and when the police are around I watch them very closely and try not to give them a reason to pick on me.

ORIGINAL: txmorgan Look, this is a touchy subject for everyone on this board as we come from different age ranges and different styles of riding, so how the police are going to impact our lives are going to be different for all of us. we ALL understand that there can't be a USA without police and that their job requires them to put up with all sorts of people from those endangering themselves to those endangering others, however we are all free to have our own opinions on the subject and i KNOW that some of the responses talking about ignorant people were directed at me in some way for saying I hate cops. I can respect the position, and I can respect your opinion, but there have been times when I have NEEDED the police, and when I have CALLED the police and only to end up in dissapointment. I have also been harassed by police and been given unfair citations for pointless issues. So when I say I hate police, I mean it, in my experience the police have done nothing but aggrevate me and cause more trouble than good, and in response to who am I going to call if my bike gets stolen, you can be sure I'll call the police, and you can also be about 99% sure that they won't find shit. So let's all remain cool on the boards here especially about touchy subjects and instead of instantly attacking those members who have been around a while and happen to have a controversial point on a subject, we should stick to constructive criticism... and stare at my signature. yeah dude i love your siggy...

There are always gonna be good/bad cops. Some of them do it for the money, some for the power, and some actually care. For instance I have a friend who's a police officer and he says he does it so he can just mess with people. He likes the power. I know the guy and grew up with him. He's a real ahole and cheats on his girlfriend all the time. That's 1 out of who knows how many police officers but the aholes are there. Then there's another friend who's in police training right now; and he does it cuz he wants to make a difference. We shouldn't generalize but once you get one bad experience, it's the one you remember. whether it's with ur phone company or the police, it's human nature.
