Hi again to all fellow CBR riders!

If anyone remembers, I crashed my 1000F last july and bikes front end was pretty much totaled. I tried to get new front fairing and headlight, but found out that they are incredibly hard to get second-hand. Got desperate and didn't know what to do, my brother suggested that if I try to install 1100XX Blackbird front fairing to my 1000F. With my crappy photoshopping skills I made rude sketch and it looked actually pretty cool. So, as other options were pretty short, I thought to give it a go.

Hold on, story continues...

List of all broken things looked like this (sorry if some misspellings):

Front right suspension
Right mirror
Front cage
Front fairing
Headlight
Gauges
Plastics around gauges
Windshield
Front fender
Crankshaft case
Back fairing
Front right side fairing
Right side peg
Braking peg
Throttle handle
Gas tank
Rear passenger grip

Then comes the part of over 200 hours of work, when all those parts are either fixed or replaced if necessary. I bought second hand 1100XX front fairing with minor scratches and lightly damaged 1100XX headlight. Biggest problem was that front cage which holds gauges, mirrors and headlight. They are totally different in 1000F and 1100XX, so I went on to modify and weld both bikes cages together. Fuel tank was also replaced. Side and back fairing were repaired by fiber glass + plastic welding, as was front fender which was broken into five pieces. Here are some pics of that overall repairing process, pics show repaired front fender in primer paint, damaged and new aluminium crankshaft case, damaged and new fuel tank, damaged front cage which was cut and welded together with 1100XX cage and working with front suspension which was bent and needed to be replaced.

Now, fitting that 1100XX front fairing. Overall, it was much easier than I first thought, it connected suprisingly well with 1000F side fairings. 1000F mirrors needed some minor modification to fit into that new cage. Plastics which go around gauges and fuel tank were done from plexi glass after cutting shape from cardboard. Pics are from these parts of project.

And here's the result. First pic still need mirrors and front fender attached, and second pic is all work done. I couldn't resist to fire up photoshop again and make unique sticker to my bike, I will print and attach that later.

After all, I'm now damn proud of what I've done, as 99% of all work was done by myself. It still needs some finishing work here and there, but bike has been already road tested and new front fairing doesn't have any negative stability effect. Also one special part needs to be attached, I've still got metal plate supporting my collar bone which was cut into three pieces in that crash. Plate will be removed at the end of this summer, and I'm going to ask to let me keep that as a memorable. You can probably guess where that's going to be bolted on to remind me of that crash...

Any comments on result or any questions, I'll be glad to answer.

Good you are back ! It seems that your new bike will be very nice. I've also seen that there is a lot of cheap Tupperware for the Bird, hopefully I don't need any replacement parts...

Hello! I just noticed you have changed to Blackbird, well I'm now halfway there too .

Some of the fairings had to be forced into place, so I need to keep my bike alot in the sun, as sunlight will heat up and release all tension those fairings still have. Of course, Scandinavian solution would be to put that bike into a sauna and give it a good bath .

yas001, thanks! I'll get better pics from final result when weather gets better, it's now pouring with rain. Also just tell if you want more pics from repairing process or from any specific part, I'll be glad to post them for you all.

It looks really good! Like a face lifted model that Honda should have made in the late nineties

Yep, this is literally plastic surgery . Here's couple more pics, first two are after crash / present views of gauges, there's some bolt ends showing, but actually I couldn't care less.

Wow, that's very nice! Personally I would have stuck the XX mirrors on, but that's just me.
Nice write up on it as well!

Great job.  Nice write up.  How is the handling compared to the 1000F front end?  Also, did you put on the Blackbird front brakes?
