thats a fairly wide open question. can you narrow it down some? whats your budget? how much looking have you done? have you tried anything on? textile or leather? me personally, I like Arai helmets...the are very comfortable and light- high $$-makes me fell like I am getting high quality- but try on several styles and manufactures. resist going too cheap on the helmet. its important I have a Joe Rocket leather jacket-I think it is 1.3-1.4mil leather. the thicker the better. also got to have tight fitting leather jacket. with protection in the elbows, forarm area, shoulder, and back protector; leather pants that ideally zip into your jacket that way if you surf the concrete your jacket doesnt ride up, or your pants down. again should be tight fitting so they stay in place when you slide. good boots, Sidi, A*, Set- up you have several boots to choose. make sure they limit the amount of rotation your foot and ankle could be subjected to. it helps to try on a few, so they are comfortable to stand in and ride in. good pair of gloves, should be thick, but comfortable. I had a pair of joe rocket gloves, but upgraded to a pair of Held leather panther gloves. I love em. your budget will set alot of what you look at, and the options that you need, vs want. decide on when you will be riding, I recommend a perferated leather pant and a jacket that has zip out linings, and zip out vents that can be worn in the colder weather, but vented so it can still flow alot of air in the summer. for online shopping I recommend new enough.com great customer service, good prices, even have alot of close out stuff for cheap. they will work with you if you buy the wrong size. buddy of mine didnt even know which jacket he wanted, so they told him to get them both, decide and send the other one back. no problem.

thanks for the response, i'll try to narrow it down and get more detailed. no i haven't looked around hardly at all. budget doesn't concern me unless it gets REAL expensive. what price can you put on safety? i'll pay to be as safe as i can be. helmet - DOT approved of course, never heard of SNELL. just a general understanding that Arai and Shoei seem to be the top brands, haven't checked them out though. jacket - i guess i have to consider the fact that i'm going to be in texas soon. so i guess i'll want to know what's good for riding in the cold or in the heat. i have a basic leather jacket i picked up from the harley shop. seems to be pretty thick. i've heard of Joe Rocket, and the name Icon also comes to mind but again i haven't looked at either. i like the idea of shoulder, back and elbow protection. pants - speaking of protection, if they make pants with knee and lower spine protection, i'd be into that. boots and gloves - hehe, both. i'll start cruising the internet at some of the manufacturers you suggested, and check that site also. i guess when i made my first post i was looking more for recommendations on what brand(s) are best. thought maybe there are certain brands that are most accepted and popular in the sport bike community. and was hoping to get some real world support and reasons why people use what they use. i'll do some reading. thanks again for the help

You guys need to read more about gear. I'm only saying that because when I first got into riding, the first thing I checked up about was gear. You don't always have to go with Shoei or Arai for helmets. They may be top brand helmets, but that doesn't necessarily make them the best for everybody. Shark makes AWESOME helmets. Their RSR2 is one hell of a helmet. WebBikeWorld named it their helmet of the year. Oh, and if you're interested in a Speedmaster suit by Joe Rocket, let me know.

I wouldn't pay under 300 for a helmet. Another thing removable liners big plus. That way you can wash it way easier. I got a joe rocker jacket and a agvstar. In protection i think the agvstar is better, but they both protect well.
