Ok, first off please dont lable me as a stupid noob because i want a 600.  Ive read the entire thread and can understand completely where you guys are comming from.  But how about this for a suggestion/question... does anyone make a governor for a cbr

That would certainly take care of the "accidentally ripping on the throttle" theory and it would prevent people from having to get a 250 that they dont want in the first place because they are going to have to sell it later on and buy what they wanted to begin with.  Yet they could govern it down to the power of a 250.

Stupid idea still?

It's not JUST about the power...  never has been.  the bike on the whole is not designed for the new rider, not even in the slightest.

could you explain why?  What are the differences that make it not suitable for a new rider?

the brakes are insanely powerful, the most powerful component on the motorcycle,  they can slow you down faster than the rocket can accelerate.  a quick jab of the brake as in a panic situation (it happens) could EASILY snap the tire loose and scare the shit out of you (at best) or you could lose traction alltogether causing a lowside (hopefully a lowside) or a highside crash (yuck yuck ouch ouch $$$$$)

like my dad has told me, "the throttle will put you in jail, the brakes will put you in the hospital" which is of course not always the case, but you get what he was saying.

the ergonomics are in all honesty very uncomfortable, and unsuitable for day to day driving.  it makes learning the basics feel like a chore, and more difficult as it relies on stomach and leg muscles (rather than eased seating position) to put you in position to controll the bike.

ok..well I have been listening to everyones opinions. My friend that bought the 06 R6 a couple weeks ago (first bike) looks at me funny when I ask about the brakes being strong and the throttle and what not. he says just do it, I will be fine..it snot as bad as everyone is making it out to be. he has about 500 miles on it without issue and he hasnt been into the power yet..just cruising around getting to know the bike. I dunno..everyone is different. My first 4 wheeler was a Banshee 350cc, my first manual car was my 400hp Cobra..I dunno. dont think I'm not listening to you guys..I am...I just have always gotten what I wanted and learned on it and progressed slowly and been fine. no accidents since I was 17 (10 years ago)

Even if you do buy it, you wont be able to use it... So, whats the point? The learning curve will be so steep that someone else who actually listened will be able to outride you in just a few months (assuming you make it that long without wrecking)....

All in all, its your choice and your money.... But, go look through the forums about all the "squids"..... Yeah... thats you.

steering is very sensative, engine responsiveness is ultra quick, Brakes are insanely powerful, geometry is too agressive for a novice rider (makes untrained adjustments difficult to accomplish)...  there are LOTS of reasons this bike doesn't make a good beginer motorcycle.

Would those things also hold true for a 02 f4i? Are they completely different animals or one in the same?

Also whats a "squid"?

Thanks again for the help

yeah, an 02 will be about the same....

Also, squid = squirrely kid = retard on two wheels that think that going 150+mph and wheelies are the correct and cool thing to do on crowded public streets.

wow man if you got the money. try it.  But carry full coverage and where all the gear.  If your still argueing your point you will prob. go out and buy a rr anyway.  You may go down because of inexperience, but ya may not.  You asked for an educated opionion and you got some.  So you can know make a judgement call with full knowledge.

2 things i will say.  Ride to your ability NOT the guy in front of you.  There is a stop sign or a stop light on every road most people (friends) will wait for ya there.  Another while you are riding around learning how to handle your bike. watch out.  It's not always your fault you were involved in an accident.  If grandma is driving in the center of the road or the wrong side of the road you need to be preparred to make that bike do what you need it to do to get the hell out of the way.  People don't pay attention when they drive.
You don't want to be the guy who kills it and dumps it on the main drag of your town because.  He is still learning.  I practiced in a big ass parking lot for hours with  a friend on a little 250 honda rebel.  Then hit the streets down by some warehouses on sunday when their wasn't any traffic.  No matter what you do take a safety couse (MSF course)  it helps on insurance and is considered the driving protion of your lisence test(at least in the state of missouri).

i've put 500 miles on my bike in just a week plenty of times (06 600rr 15kmiles as of last week); no disrespect towards your friend, but he doesnt know shit about his r6 yet, it all comes with time (miles).  and hes right, you'll never notice how powerful the brakes are... until you run into a panic life or death situation )which on a motorcycle honestly happens much more than youd like),  which in 500 miles, i seriously doubt he's seen.  the brakes are both a blessing and a curse, as they can stop you from 160mph, repeatedly and reliably... but they will also bite an inexperienced rider. hard.

btw, lol i did the math a few months ago for the hell of it:
a terminator cobra needs to pull 831hp to match the power/weight ratio of an 06 600rr, if you wanted to compare bikes to cars.  4 wheelers need less horsepower, as they weigh less, but the 700 raptor only makes 40ish.  there's no comparing anything but motorcycles to motorcycles.

especially if they believe that the fact that they haven't died yet while doing that makes them a good rider

hey man how did ya do the math on that.  I suck at math I tried to figure that up one time.  Got a headache.  I get tired of the little rice cars with turbo's and nitros sayin they can wax a 600 bike.

P.S.- sorry off subject, but i really suck at math.

Nevermind found a calculator for it online. I love the net. Here is the link man.  My TA would have to have around 800 horse to run with my bike pound for pound.  But it's got a/c.

I agree with starting with a smaller bike (no matter how stupid you think you look) I have just bought my 07 600RR a month ago and it is truthfully a badass bike. I started with a ninja 250 and learned to ride on that. Itell ya that if I didn't have the 250 first I would have probably already killed myself on the 600. The bike is way to powerful for a beginner. Take it from someone who chose the sensable way to learn. Thats the way to go.

its just a ratio...

So.... lets just say cbr600rr + me = 100HP and 500lbs... That would be a ratio of 1:5

So... to accomplish the same thing in a car..... 500HP and 2500lbs (which is damn light for a car)... Still retaining the 1:5 ratio.

ok, i was wrong, it was an 06 gt, not a terminator cobra, and it was 881 hp, but no big deal

first you do write out the hp over the curb weight for both, you do weight divided by hp for both, then you multiply the answer to that vehicles hp, that will give you hp/ton  you divide your bikes hp/ton by the cars, then multiply that answer by the car's base hp, and that solution is the hp that vehicle needs to match power/weight ratio.

some people like to use decimals instead of hp/ton, but f*** them
quote:

power/weight ratio=Math Time!

So with a 3rd motorcycle in the garage now, and its engine in pieces, i figured i would figure out the power/weight ratio of the cb750.  and for you car guys, ill do a 2006 mustang gt, so you can see the comparison, lol.
1978 Honda CB750:  67hp, 517.3lbs curb weight. gives a power/weight ratio of......259hp/ton.

2006 Ford Mustang GT:  300hp, 3518lbs curb weight......170hp/ton.

also, just for shits and giggles, i did my bike as well:

2006 Honda CBR600RR:  107.2hp, 429lbs curb weight......499.7hp/ton.

so here we go, (math math math math math) that means this Mustang GT, in order to have the same power/weight ratio as the CB750, needs 460hp, to have an even race, and 881hp to be on the same page as the CBR600RR.

remember, 600s are as SLOW as sportbikes get too!
Point is, dont rev your new mustang up at me jerkoff!

lol but be warned, i was a terrible math student, so anytime i do anything with math involved, there is about a 50/50 chance of my answer being full of shit
