Hey all,

The annual Long Island Lighthouse Challenge is May 19-20. I think I have only seen one or two bikes when I have volunteered for it (I narrate the cruises in the evenings and work the Orient Point/Plum Island stop during the daylight hours).

The deal is that you visit several lighthouses (I think there will be ten on the challenge this year) and a museum. At each stop, you get a free souvenir. If you complete all the stops, you get another souvenir for completing the challenge. I think it's about 300 miles total in two days. Fire Island to Montauk Point on the South Shore, Huntington Harbor to Orient Point on the North Shore.

Check www.lilighthousesociety.org for more info. There's no charge to participate, but there are some parking charges at a two or three of the stops. The cruises are Friday and Saturday night. Call 631-277-4611 if those interest you.

New Jersey and Maryland do similar events in the Fall.

Even if you don't do the challenge, if you're on LI and want to stop by some lighthouses, let me know and I may join you for the ride.
