It really depends man.  I weigh about 175 and do hit the gym on a near daily basis, but when I dropped my bike my leg was messed up.  When you pick it up make sure to use your legs mostly.. it's like deadlifting but more ackward like.  My bike weighs 360lbs.. so since your hitting the gym through in some leg work outs (if your not already doing it).  Odds are you wont drop your bike.. (I'm a noob but thats just my assumption).

ummmmm, if your leg is in bad enough condition that you can't hold your bike up you probably shouldn't be riding or doing deadlifts. I would think paying attention would keep you from dropping your bike not hitting the gym. I've seen 105lb women ride bikes, stop at lights, and not drop it. Pretty sure they can't lift the bike up or deadlift 360lbs. All I'm saying is i don't see any logic in this at all. This is like saying if you swim alot you won't ever drown.

he was responding to my question, will i be able to pick up a bike if i drop it? of course i dont want to drop it, but if i ever do (and according to this thread, its a huge possibility), i want to be sure that i can pick it up by myself.

Earlier in the post there were some of you that said to drop the bike in the grass. What is the purpose of this? Is it to practice picking it up by yourself?

If so, is picking it up by yourself really hard? I weigh about 150 mostly muscle (used to weigh 135 and started working out so hopefully its true) will I have trouble picking up a bike?

The reason people drop their bikes in the grass is not to practice picking it up... lol!!  It is to get rid of the inevitable of dropping it on pavement.  Got to shake those deamons some how.  I cant wait to get my paintjob fixed from doing that.

And i dont really think you would have a problem with that.  I only bench 2X45 lbs. + 2X25's.  and weigh 195 lbs.  I dont think it is too hard.  I had to do it 3 times allready.  lol once i didn't have fairings on it and i was powersliding around my house.  Really fun by the way.  if you take all your fairings off i would recomend it. lol..   Anyways... Just when you are picking it up make sure to have your front brake on.  I find it helps.  I'm a pro bike picker upper.  lol.

Eh, I haven't been to the gym for a while because of my leg.. but its good enough to ride on.  I just got the bike and highly addicted!

Ive dropped my bike 2 times now

1st time was the day after i got it took it out cruising that night at the local spot, trying to act badass with the car full of chicks next to me i roll up no hands...I dont know what i was thinking.........And low and behold the bike just falls and im left standing there with a bike between my knees just to try and redeem myself the light turns green i WOT and take off and got away as fast as i could..

2nd time I was rolling up into my ex's yard on the corner of the street and she has this hump of rocks in the middle of her yard and i hit the top of the ramp onto the curb and i let out the clutch to fast and the bike hits the rocks stopps me dead and i roll off sprained my ankle, snapped my shifter peg off and rashed up the intake area a bit...

ive had countless number of OHH shits but i had one last week i still cant live down

I was coming into work and i have about 200 yard of straight road right next to the parking lot so i get on it, but i see some water at the L turn infront of me like puddle of standing water i pull in the clutch and slow down, but right as i was coming outta of the turn i guess i gave it to much gas or to much clutch but the bike fishtails out i throw my left foot down to throw the bike back up right when i see 2 co workers going on break and they are just cracking up at me... Man i hate life LOL

wow, reading this thread makes me feel ALOT better after dropping my bike 6 times in one month(new rider, new bike). all of those times were 2mph drops(stall out, front wheel turned)

my two most embarassing happened at intersections.

1. I wasnt feeling good. I had the flu. It was my second day riding. I leave my curb and bam stall out and fall over. im so weak from being sick I cant pick the bike up(but I know I can because I dropped it the day before). guy comes by in car and ask if I need help and I say no because I'm cocky like that. Call my friend and he lifts up my bike. He says,. :"you sure you ok to ride?" and like yea. so 20 blocks later aproaching a down hill stop sign and he turns right. instead of stopping I do a roll and keep it in 2nd and rpm too low I stall out and fly off my bike as it leans over. i land on my back and hear OHHHHHH followed by HAHAHAHA by some kids at the bus stop. I get up real cool, and look at one of the kids and motion for him to help me. actually he was one that was coo he help direct traffic around me and also lift my bike up.

2. I just got off an exit about to turn left and light turns yellow. I kinda panic and brake but when I stop my bike is a little leaned due to me trying to turn. the light turns red. the bike leans and i cant hold it. i step over and let it down. stand up to breath. then crouch down and pick it up. then get back on and turn like nothing happen. the whole time the car behind me was just chilling and didnt even try to help

the most embarrassing I think is when people walk by and see you fully geared out looking all cool and your bike lying on its side.

When I was 16 years old I talked my parents into letting me get a street bike (been riding dirt bike since 11) Well they let me get a ninja 250 figured it would be a safe bike to learn on.  I lived in a state with no helmet law so on evening about 2 weeks after i get the bike i was out riding and had my helemt on.  I decided to stop in a parking lot and take it off and strap it to the rear seat.  I pull into a parking lot put the bike in nuetral and turn it off.  I put the kickstand down and throw my leg over and get off. I turn around and as im unstraping the helmet I notice my bike is rolling (parked on a slight hill) I reach out in just enough time to touch the seat as it slams to the ground (no damage).  Lesson learned leave it in grat when parking on a hill.  About 2 weeks after that i was riding with a friend and we stopped at a red light he was on my right side and we were making a left turn.  the light turned green and we both took off from the intersection well he pulled off ahead of me and as he began to turn left he pulled into my line i paniced and grabbed the front brake causing me to go down nice and easy.  A couple days after that riding with another friend on a road i had never been on at a speed I should not have been going i topped a small hill only to find a 90 degree right hander i was going way to fast to even think about making it so straight off the road i go down a 6 foot hill into the bushes about 200 feet into the woods.  Needless to say I learned from my mistakes real early and have been riding since (im 31 now) without any other issues except my bike falling over in my drive way one night during a rainstorm.

Stupidest thing I ever did was with my 1st bike, the zx7 Ninja.  I had just gotten the bike and was about to take her out for my first ride.  I rode it out fromt my garage to the top of my driveway, put the kickstand down and ran back to close the garage door.  I turn around no more than 10 seconds later to see my bike ghost riding itself down my driveway and proceeds to T-Bone my neighbor's Volvo which was parked across the street at the end of the driveway.  Apparently the front wheel wasn't cocked to the side enough and the damn thing rolled right off the kickstand!  Luckily my neighbor was cool about the car, although it did set me back a few hundred to have the dent pulled out.  Hellofova first ride, and I wasn't even on it!

This didnt happen to me but to one of my friends.. Ok so my buddy had his bike parked on the street( 2006 R6 50th aniversary edition) so while him and another friend talk my other friend tony gets on the bike like hes gonna drive it. So the guy who owns it lets him start it up and everything rev the engine. Well Mike turns away and the guy puts up the kickstand and drops it in first, so mike says what are you gonna do drive off.... SOOO what does he do? He takes right off goes about ten feet about to hit a damn house wobbles and drops his brand new bike on the sidewalk... He could have went two feet farther and hit grass or dropped it two fee sooner and hit grass. But no he hit the foot and a half of sidewalk and breaks the mirror turn signal scratches the front and side fairings and exhaust. 750 dollars and priceless to watch cause as soon as he gets up the only words that come out of his mouth we "Bill Me" LOL

I've had a couple of incidents on my bike. My first was just a week into ownership. I was taking my sweet time riding around my neighborhood (which I actually did for 3 weeks before going on the road) and I stopped at a T intersection. As I tried to go left, I let the clutch out a little quick while trying to turn at the same time. Well, she stalled and I fell over pretty slowly. My left foot got stuck under it and hurt like crazy for at least a week after. Luckily, there wasn't anyone around to see (at least not in cars/walking by). My sliders took most of it but my left mirror now has scratches and just below the passenger seat is a scrape about an inch long. Could have been worse.

The other night I was at the grocery store picking up some liquor (for at home... no drinky and ride) and small stuff, and as I got back on my bike I noticed a MILF who's son was checking out the bike. I distictly heard her say to her son just before I started the bike 'there he goes'. Boy did I go. I backed out of my spot, gave her a little gas, started letting the clutch out... STALL. Just great. So I stop her, start her up again, start rolling with some gas and let out the clutch.... BUCK BUCK STALL. I sat there for a minute shaking my head at myself before I took off. I never looked back.

As with other members on here, I have forgotten to shift into 1st on several occasions and stalled on many other occasions trying to take off when in first. Most of the time, I realize what I did wrong and immediately restart the bike and get going, but I know my face is about as red as my bike.

well i got a long story all in ONE day. 1st week i got my bike my friend and i wer riding up to red rock in las vegas nice scenary area. there was a few sharp turns thought i was getting the hang of it, guess not 15mph turn i was doing around 45mph and this is my first bike a 06 cbr 1000. i had to lay it down in the gravel or i would of went over the cliff. my friend came back he was ahead of me so he was wondering where the hell i was after 5 mins of waiting. hehe. i was fine after taking the fall just a few scraps my bike side fairing and back was all scratched up. this aint the end. on the last few turns my friend sped it up thinking he was cool and locked his break slamming into a bush. he was pissed off couldn't believe he ate shit right after i did, jumping up and down throwing a big tantrum saying we are both dumbasses and his dad will be pissed. his dad buys him everything and he is 26 years old. lol . this aint the end on our way home we get pulled over my bike all scratched up i dont have plates yet the reason he pulls me over. bike cop asks for the usual license and reg ... i hate damn bike cops... well i dont have a license or a permit. so he tells me he will do me a favor without towing my bike. i cant drive it though. so i tell my friend to drive home get his car and pick me up let me drive his car and him drive my bike... yah what a day!

summary if you do not read the top... 2week old bike i crash... friend crashes... on the way home... bike cop pulls us over... i have no license or permit...

a few weeks later my friend uses my bike takes that corner at 45mph no problem... haha i have a lot to learn :)

moving my bike just a little pass my doorway into my apartment yes i put it in my apartment i live in las vegas and dont have theft coverage.. anyways it was in the way i tell my friend to put up the kick stand kaz im standing on the right side of the bike he says  he has to use the bathroom. i move it up still being on the right side. i let it go totally forgetting about the kick stand and it goes through the wall in my apartment. i was oh crap well i said somethign else. good thing is it doesnt have extra cracks just white marks from the drywall on the left side of the bike... and a big a$$ hole in my wall. oh yah the left mirror broke off again. it had already broke once from my first crash. this time i bought it off ebay for 20$ or so not dealership which was a lot more.

i have cracks in most of the fairings even my front fender from when i forgot i had the lock on was backing up and snap! the fendor cracks... /cry ... need to remember my lock
