Ok, probably a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. I have an '05 F4i and I'm looking into switching out the seat to the '03 split seat setup. I've found several nice walkthroughs all saying you need to swap out the rear subframe to fit the cowl and that a minor bit of welding is required to attach some of the other items.

So my question is, wouldn't it be easier to just adjust the '05 rear frame to accomidate the older cowl? I've looked at the schematics for the two rear frames and they don't appear to be that far off size wize. Cleary the cowls connect to the frame differently but since you have do a bit of welding either way it seems like that would be easier. If possible this would save the cost of a new frame, underframe, lights etc. I'm assuming someone would have done this already if it were possible but does anyone know what it is that I'm missing?

Also, does anyone know if the '03 seats will hook into the '05 frame (pretending the fairing wasn't installed)?
