Hello all, I am just looking for any suggestions for a long road trip in about a week.  I will be riding from Portland OR to Helena MT and taking the long way through Idaho.  I have nice saddlebags and a tankbag from tourmaster.  have also been trying to get used to longer rides.  What I am looking for is good advise for the trip.

all weather gear for the rain and what not, an ipod (if legally allowed, check the state laws youll be going through), a safety kit with tools and emergency stuff, a cell phone, and take a break about every half hour to hour depending on how you feel....... i would rather take time and get there safely than push myself and put myself and others at risk...... also let people know the exact route youre taking just in case something happens (knock on wood)

Some more good stuff to take along would be:

emergency tire plug kit
small 12V air pump
small can of chain lube
tire gauge
a few rags
flashlight

You plan to come up through Lost Trail Pass? I live just north of there in Stevensville. I'm guessing the "long way" is up through Salmon and north on 93? let me know and maybe we could meet up and ride a bit.

Here is my super-sweet map to show you what I mean... lol. Lost Trail pass and the drive on Hwy 93 up through the Bitterroot is awesome. Just a suggestion though. Not sure where exactly you were planning on going.

+ 100 on the chain lube. If you get caught in the rain you could eat your chain on that long ride! Have fun man!
