Hi all -

new to the board and the CBR, but not bikes.

I'm doing the proper mod #1 right now, getting the suspension adjusted for my weight and riding style. I've got most of the settings at a good starting point, but I can't adjust the rear shock - it won't budge more than a notch or so either way, and I get maybe 10mm of static sag while on the bike, and I'm ~180lbs... From looking at pictures of shocks as well (in my clymer manual), it looks like mine was previously adjusted way too far - the notched collar looks like its way too far up, and I just wanted to confirm with someone else before I went out and bought another shock...

Should I be shopping for a new shock? Thanks all.
-Steve

Yeah - same thing happened to mine, but I'm the brute that did it. When it is over turned in either direction, it gets stuck. In my case I accidentally overcranked it past 7 and got it stuck so tight that I bent the wrench trying to unstick it. In the end i ended up ordering an aftermarket rear susp. for my big ass from Racetech.com and I had the shop install it, you can get a stock rear from ebay for like 40 bucks and have it swaped for your old one but I dont think you'll be able to fix that shock thats on there now- judging by the picture.

I know this is an old threat but I'm dealing with the same thing,  I don't know if mine is broken, but it sure won't move.  Does this mean it's just stuck in position 7?  If so, that's just fine.  And if I do get it moving, which direction is a higher position and which is lower?

Take off the plastic chain guard so there is more room for the C Spanner + extension arm to turn.
Stand on the left side of the bike, wear one glove, place the other glove on top of the spanner so that it doesn't scratch the bike frame in the event you slipped.
To soften the setting from 7, pull upwards firmly but slowly and it should move by one notch to 6 then repeat again for no. 5 setting etc.
