ok well i bought my bike off a girl and it has a crappy paintjob .plus its a powder blue i want it gone.what should i use to remove all the paint without messing up the plastic? thanks for the info.

I assume you plan to repaint it? If so, a normal paint prep job, sanding, sanding and more sanding is all you need to do.

if you trust the previous prep work. just sand it down with 320 first to get it to look dull then sand it with 600 and you should be ready for your base coat of whatever color you want

Use aircraft remover take it off.  Read about polishing rims.  Same concept just your taking the paint off the fairing instead of the polishin.

i dont think aircraft stripper on plastic is a good idea. just sand so its nice and smooth. that aircraft stripper might eat up all your fairings, try it out on some plastic first and see what happens

ARE U F*CKIN SERIOUS? AIRCRAFT STRIPPER? lmag maybe u need to step away from the fairings and call a prof. if u use the stripper ur gonna eat right threw ur fairings and then ull be replacing them. 320 grit? ur kiddin right? streetinsanity get about 800 grit, then move to 1000, 1500, 2000 grit. u dont want to scratch the hell outta ur fairings u just want to take the clear coat off then go back wit some primer to cover the blue until u get it painted. trust me if u want to replace ur fairings cuz of holes from the stripper go ahead, and 320 is to rough. ur not sandin metal here your sanding plastic.

How about Carb Cleaner? That stuff takes the paint right off, i don't know the side effects of doing this, any experts?

do not use chemicals on plastic. I agree with pimpn on this one, except to make the job go faster start with 400 grit and 2000 is most likely unnessasary. On my last bike I sanded with 1000 for the final prep, cleaned with dishsoap water and shot the paint. Came out perfect.

OMG aircraft stripper is BAD- very BAD-  i recomend sanding with 220 DA then 320 DA and then Prime with some Quality primer like Transtar or some Upol Then wetsand parts with 400 and 600 then paint

I started with 80 grit and worked to 600. Mines good.

aircraft stripper on motorcycle plastics? hope aircraft is the name of a gentlemen's club. then im all for it. but i doubt it and therefore wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

On my 1996 CBR600 F3 the bike use to look similar to this..

But now the bike looks like what it is in my Avator.  Which the guy who owned it before me used a rattle can semi-glossy black to paint over a lot of the fairings.  Including the windscreen.

While my bike is in the shop I'm thinking about going ahead and prepping the side fairings and such.  With rattle can over clear coat would I want to remove all the black and get down to the clear coat and sand all of that down?

Or should sanding the black smooth with the clear coat below it be okay?  And is it any different for the metal gas tank?
