Hi! Im Amanda.. I'm 20.. and I do not own a bike as of yet.  I've been offered an extremely good deal on an 06 CBR 600f4i... and I want to buy it.  But all my guy friends tell me not to cause they think im too short, can't handle it ext.  I've ridden atvs etc for years.. so i understand clutch and shifting.. and even though i know i can get my permit and go riding before i take the motorcycle saftey course.. I wouldnt even dream of getting on a CBR until i took the course...  Do you think im over shooting my limits...  I know alot of people who have started on cbrs and are fine....

sorry for posting in the womens section but many shorter women in my area ride the f4i's as their first bike and have been fine. Most of them have had the front and rear lowered to better help with their height. I am 5ft 5in and I just have to "one fit it" when I come to stops but other than that I'm fine. I say go for it but definately take the course and get gear before you start riding the streets.

go for the cbr, i did. Im short as well and can only manage one foot on the ground with the bike slightly lent over but its all about how confident you are on the bike that makes the difference.......try removing some foam from the seat or getting boots with thicker soles.

I am 5-1 we just lowered the bike. I have only rode the bike so far maybe 5 times. I took the class and it helped. You will be just fine.

Amanda,
Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do something.  That should be all the more reason for you to prove them wrong.  I don't know how tall you are, but I know when I first got my F4i, I was so nervous because I could only stand with it on my tippy toes.  Little did I know, that's all I really needed to be able to do.  As long as you're comfortable with the weight of it and being able to steady it, you'll be fine.  If not, you can always lower it.
The MSF course was very helpful and informative for me.  You'll be fine.
Buy the bike!  You'll love it.  It can always be modified to "fit" you!
