I FOUND A 98 F3 SMOKIN JOE REPLICA FOR SALE, ITS GOT 40K MILES ON IT. NEVER DROPPED, GOT A PIPE ON IT AND IN GREAT CONDITION. I HAVE 2 QUESTIONS, FIRST IS I KNOW 40K MILES IS ALOT, IS THIS STILL OK FOR A BEGINNER BIKE? WHAT PROBS SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN I GO TO SEE IT? AND MY SECOND QUESTION, THE GUY SAID HE HAD SOME SORT OF HIGH PERFORMANCE SPOCKET/GEAR THING THAT MAKES THE SPEEDO OFF A COUPLE MPH. HE SAID IT MAKES IT QUICKER OR SOMETHING. IS THIS A GOOD THING FOR A BEGINNER? WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS? AND WOULD IT BE EASY TO SWAP OUT IF I DONT WANT IT? BY THE WAY, HE IS ASKIN 3,500. BUT ITS JUST A REPLICA, I THINK ITS HIGH, WHAT DO U THINK. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.--BRAD

You're probably gonna get a lot of this, but I think 40k is WAY too many miles for a bike. I got my 96' 600 F3 with 15K on it for $3200. If this is a first bike, I'm not saying get something new (because you WILL drop it) but you can most certainly find something with not so many miles on it. Not sure where you live, but since the off-season is coming up, you can find a lot more people selling bikes with a reasonable amout of miles on them and for about the same price as the one you're looking at. Also, IMHO, not that it matters but, 40,000 miles and NEVER dropped!?!? Not saying it's not possible but c'mon!!

I bought a 98 f3 with 11500 miles but it was not a smokin joe edition. Paid $3500 at the beginning of the summer. And this bike was perfect. The guy who owned it was older and very anal about everything he owned. I could tell by his other bike, truck, and house. I would try to talk him down a little. Also if you like working on bikes and such that would not be a bad bike but if you don't know much about them I would look for something with less miles that might not need a little wrench turning in a couple month after you buy it. But you never know you could ride it for years and never have a problem with it. The sprocket gearing you are talking about is not bad it just gives the bike a little more acceleration and it losses a little top end speed.

I bought this 96 F3 earlier this summer for $3,500 with a little over 16,000 miles. The bike does not appear to have been abused and the price was about what I was seeing in the local cycle trader magazines. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y265/radio1/100_1892.jpg

I'm new to the forum, but I am selling my 98 CBR600F3, only 1600 miles. Most of the mods are listed in my sig. It also has a new Virginia inspection sticker, title is clean & clear. It is available to come check out/ride. Oil was just changed, and the bike has never been dropped. Asking price is $4000, but I am open to anything resonable, make an offer.

Where are you guys getting these bikes? In my area, $3500 $5000 will get you a 1, 2 or 3 year old bike with less than 5K miles on it. I can't believe I am seeing people paying $3500 for a 10 year old bike... Not to mention the miles. 40K isn't a TON of miles, but it's up there. If it has a clear title (not salvage), I would offer that guy $1,800 - and if he said no, I'd offer $2K. If he didn't want that, I'd wish him happy selling and be on my way.

I bought my f3 a couple of months ago for $2500(guy wanted 3500 because of the motor but he lowered reserve TY ebay) @28k on the body but 2,000mi on the honda dealer rebuilt motor. clear title and only fell over once in storage. 2 weeks later a 96 900rr in my area went in the classifieds for ONLY $3,000 i was pissed. oh yeh and another member on here is selling a pretty nice f3 for $2500 which i would of bought too. Just wait because you might run into something cheaper and better.
