I am a new rider. I have rode my husbands cbr600 2 times for a few minutes. I never got out of 1st gear. I am having problems starting off. I want so bad to just go but I cant. I am afraid I am not going to know what to do if a situation pops up. I am only 5-1 so we had the bike lowered for me but I still can only touch with my tippy toes. Any ideas where to begin. I am looking into a class but they are all filled up until October. I dont want to wait that long to ride. Any helpful hint. Anyone in Ohio willing to help me be a good rider?????

Hey girl I'm not from ohio but I know the problem you are having Ijust went through it. I just finished my course a week ago so getting started is no problem any more. There are a few girls in the course who could only touch tippy toes on a 150 honda and they did ok as long as you are comfortable on it. To start off is all clutch control. Ease the clutch out till you find the friction point where the bike starts to move forward. give it some gas and ease the clutch out slowly but keep your revs up so you don't stall. You can controll the speed in first gear by your clutch it's called clutch control if you let it out about half way your friction poin you can move the bike and it doesn't matter how much you rev the engine it won't go any faster then learn to release from there and still go slow. I hope this helps get you moving to feel more comfortable.

Don't ride the bike until you've taken formalized training. Take classes from the MSF link below. Slow down and WAIT until October. Don't be in a hurry to get yourself injured or killed on a motorcycle. There are no shortcuts when it comes to learning how to ride, only statistics.
