How common is it for people to dump their bikes on a trackday or a trackschool? the reason I ask is becuase I am wanting to do a couple of track days, and take Codes SB school this year. but I just picked up another pristine bike and dont want to dump it, but I do want to get out there and push it a little harder than I normally do. I would really like to get comfortable with my corner entry speeds, and I am a little nervous that I may find my limit. I usually ride fairly hard on the back twities, hard for me anyways, and lets just say I come by my screen name honestly. would it be worth it for me to try and find some rashed and trashed plastics and throw on my bike before I go to the track, or should I just quite worrying about it and just go do it?

There were a few that went down during my track day. I think a total of four people went down. Most of them were because of trying to pass and came into the corner too hot. I didn't bother to get plastics for the track. If it happens it happens. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you've got the cash to buy track plastics then I would. If you don't then I wouldn't let that stop me from doing a trackday.

it's fairly common for people to crash on a trackday. i was at a trackday on saturday, of the twenty people or so there, five crashed. it's pretty typical for a few people to crash. two of them binned their bikes pretty good, enough that insurance companies would write off the bikes as a total loss. you may just want to run the bike naked(check with the track day org fist, though). before my street bike was converted to a race bike, i would only run it on the track with all the fairings removed. when it comes to picking up the pace, take baby steps. most crashers try to up the pace too much which gets them into trouble. also, ride in open, clear track if you can; i was collected by one of the crashers this past weekend.

yes rashed stuff is always good for the track. i needed bling...so i sold my rash/track plastics... but that's ok... remember the main rule mang! RIDE WITHIN YOUR LIMITS! the point is NOT to push to your limits...but to ride within it and get faster through experience...as you progress, your limit bar will rise too. but sometimes...people cause you to wipe, etc... i don't do 100% at the track...it leaves no margin for error...i like to keep it fun and controlled...because it ensures for the most part that i have my health and am able to ride again.

Depends on the rider, track, and instruction I think... I went to a Track Day yesterday...and I had a run off into the grass..didn't crash...just ran off into the grass...slowed down...made a U...and safely re-entered the track. This was during the No Brakes session...where you could not use your brakes going around the track. I didn't see anyone crash...but then again I left at noon...since I rode about 75 miles to the track on the same bike I did my track day on. I was a bit tired...

I think if I look around, I can find enough rashed plastic to put on the bike for like $150. I looked at race body work, but too much money. I wont be riding at 100%, but after my recent low side down at the Gap, (from draggin hard parts) I do need to get my confidence level back in my cornering ability, and that should be at the track. And, I feel like I just need to ignore that part of me that says your leaned over too far, your too fast, and just throw it into the corner and do it. Its all mental, and I need to break through that. And to do that, I think Im gonna need to push myself, just that its a fine line before I push myself right off the bike. OK, maybe I will be riding at 100%

then you will crash because you leave zero margin for error. like i've said before, there are 2 ways to get faster...go balls out and find your limits that way...or to do 80% and let the bar slowly rise. you're not racing anyone or anything...so again i suggest you do the 80%. pride and attitude are 2 things that should be checked at the gates when hitting the track.

yeah, your right, when it comes right down to it, I dont have the balls to go all out. I dont have any pride left, and my attitude on the street is that of a person thats always riding in sweeper position, becuase I dont mind being the slowest. One of best things someone told me one time, is that the guy in the front is having the same amount of fun you are, comparative speed is not a factor in fun, unless your going too fast, then its not fun, its just dangerous. Just gets annoying when I got old women in mini vans riding my ass because im going to slow!! hahahaha
