I recently just purchased an HJC AC-12 black helmet for real cheap.  Its basically brand new except that paint is scraped off on the left side of the chin guard; and 4 inches long and a half inch wide.  So it's an all black helmet with a white line on the chin.... So my question is, How do i paint that?  I'm not looking for something perfect, but just to make it black so it blends in.  Would i have to buy plastic paint, sand it?  What do i have to do? Thanks, Nate

Sounds like more of a scratch if its that big, but you can buy auto paint that shoudl adhere.

No, but it means if it hit the ground (or anything for that matter) in any way, it is!!!

exactly, helmets are built to be structurally sound for ONE crash. after that it may not hold up if you wreck.

So if it's scratched because the guy "took one to the face" then it's junk, chuck it.

Hey guys,

I was curious on this subject as well.  Anyone have experience in custom painting a helmet.  I've go an old one that I don't use anymore that I can practice on.

It's just like painting any fiberglass, rough it up, primer it, color it, clear it. I'd recommend setting up a rotating mount that holds the helmet from the inside so instead of walking little circles around it you can rotate it around by hand, makes it a lot easier.

I used Krylon plastic fusion paint. Looks and adheres great. Buy it at local wal-mart. Do a very light 1st & 2cd coat and let them dry for a day b4 you move on. Light even coats.
