Cash.  I don't want to have to pay full insurance, just because I owe on it.

I will borrow to pay for assets which don't lose their value over time - which is pretty much only real estate and education.  Everything else is cash.

i agree on that, tho granted i already have great/cheap insurance on my subaru,im not fully sure what it would be on a bike not paid off. but getting loaned <$5000 (prolly ~4500) and paying it off sounds soo good compared to biding time for a few weeks time to pay in bulk...

its not like "ahhh gotta have it now", but i kinda gotta have it now. ya know?

thanks for all the input...

Cash. Always cash. If it is a depreciating asset...cash. Cars, bikes, food. Cash. Houses you can finance. Everything else cash.

edit: I just read Munson's post...you are a smart man.

cash, saving about $1500 a yr in insurance vs. financed not to mention with the interest payments ure paying MORE for the bike. So if its possible to save the cash and buy it that way... save the cash haha

I like to keep liquid assets around the house that I know I can sell easily. For instance, I sold 2 of my guitars in 3 days to get the scrape to buy my bike. Paid cash.

Cash, but my 900RR was really cheap. It was completely disassembled.

I you have the means to pay cash, in a few weeks, be patient and wait a few weeks. It's worth it to not have to worry about making a payment and hassling with the loan thing, unless you are looking to build up some credit. You'll just pay more for it in the long run.

look at it from a cost/benefit standpoint.  given what you've told us, you should have no problem putting some cash back from your paychecks to pay for the bike without financing it.  interest rates on used bikes are pretty high, i've seen some as low as 9%, others as high as 12%.  this means that if you take out a 5 year loan on a bike that costs, say, $5000, you'll be paying between $1200 and $1600 in interest alone (might as well just save that extra money and get a 954RR, right?).  the benefit of this is that you can take the bike home today, but is it worth the extra cost?  if you can deal with waiting a while to buy the bike, your best bet is to just save up cash.  put a little bit from each paycheck into a savings account.  it won't gain a whole lot of interest, but you'll be saving yourself $1200-$1600 that you would otherwise have to pay in interest on a loan.

For my '02 F4i, financed and paid off in 3 years. Payments were less then $250/month. Made my good credit, better, and was easy to do.
My budgeting skills are good as I never pay anything late and have a pretty nice life. But I don't easily or quickly save $8K.

I bought mine used off a friend with my hard earned cash. I did this instead of financing a new one in order to save on insurance costs like others.
