First off let me say what a great site you guys have here.

I am a newbie to the sport bike thing as I am switching over from years of off road cycles. Finally got off my but and bought a new 05 candy and silver f4i last week and noticed today that my jacket has now worn down the paint on my tank. I know rookie mistake! I am in need of some type of tank guard but also would like it to look decent. Sorry if this has been recently discussed, and would appreciate any advice any of you can give to point me in the right direction. Thanks!!!!

Targa or LP, the tank covers are kind of pain in the arse. They tell you not to leave the guards on if your bike gets wet because the moisture will affect the paint. However, to put the guard/bra on you have basically remove screws from the tank itself and lift it off the frame. Honestly, why would you want to do that every time your bike gets wet. I bought and LP tank bra and ended up selling it after I realized how it worked.

Instead, I bought a roll of this clear semi-sticky stuff that you can cut out your own tank pads. Since they're clear you can still see the underlying paint but it still prevents scratches. It pulls off easy enough and doesn't ruin the paint. I have buddy that bought static clingy plastic sheets from a crafts shop that works pretty well too. It's the same kind of stuff that McDonald's uses to hang the big signs in their store windows. It has no adhesive at all but still sticks pretty well.
