I just bought my very first bike...(03 CBR f4i) and it came with an Icon helmet, Gloves, and jacket.
Is icon a good brand to go with? Do they sell good gear or......  I just want to make sure that that equipment is will protect me and has a good rep so that I can be comfortable wearing wearing it.

I have icon barrier pants and I rode daily with them for a week before the threads holding the zipper to the pant came undone. I walked around all afternoon looking like my fly was open because I didn't have time to fix them right away. Other than the fixable problem, I think Icon equipment is alright. I will most likely be purchasing their armor vest to wear under my JR jacket.

I rock the Icon Pursuit jacket and Alliance SS helmet. Also ordered the Athem Denim pants.

I've heard good and bad things about Icon stuff but I like it. The jacket is comfortable and warm when its a bit on the chillier side but when its hot it very cool, dont really bake in it to much. The helmet is very comfortable though after it broke in it didnt fit as snug as it was when new, I think I need a small instead of a medium.

Icon gear isn't the best you can buy but it'll save your ass. Any gear is a good thing and Icon certainly does NOT suck.

I'm a Dainese whore but I'm also a gear nazi. Wear the Icon proudly.

^ I concur.  As far as jackets go imo Vanson is the best.  Gloves, Held are the best.  Helmets, well before reading the study that Motorcyclist Online did: Motorcycle Helmet Performance: Blowing the Lid Off found @ http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/ I would've said Arai with Shoei being a very close second...but now I just don't know.  They say M2R.

I wear an Icon Battlecry Jacket (textile) and I like it but I can't testify to how well it works cuz I haven't road tested it yet (Thank God).

Also, you said you bought an 03 CBR F4i and it came with a helmet.  Does that mean its used?  You should NEVER EVER use anything but a BRAND NEW helmet.  A helmet can look new even if its been in an impact.  Helmets are only good for one time use because they have an impact absorbing liner on the inside that is like a foam that crushes on impact to protect your head.  Once it's been crushed its pretty useless (or at least not nearly as effective as new).  The only way to check to see if the liner is in tact is if you get it Xrayed but that's expensive i think.  Good luck!

I currently have their hooligan gloves, street boots, and their leather jacket. I forget which model it is. Everything has held up really well except for my gloves. After for year the leather on the finger tips is starting to wear. Other than that I love their stuff. Probably wouldn't wear it to the track but as far as street riding goes they are great.

i'm gonna have to agree with joker here even tho i love ICON to death.. they got great casual look to all of them but my timax gloves are comming apart (well you see thread hanging out like they forgot to cut the ending) but they seem like they can take some punishment tho. The Helmet itself, I got ICON battlecry for $150 each (bought 2) and they are great helmets.

but almost any brand is good, just make sure the leathers have a nice thickness and also padding where the vuln points are at (elbows, shoulders, back)  the helmet fits snuggly, if your going over 60mph and the helmet tilts back - it aint snug.
