This is my thought if you have a buddy with a bike ask they if you can practice and let them help you learn to ride. When your good and ready ride it to your parents place and say you just bought it, see what they say, whats the worse that can happen they tell you to move out then you tell them the truth. My .02

600s are not dangerous, they are wayyyyyyyy to slow and once u get "used" to the power theres no chance of a wreck so u can save money by not having to buy gear. but within like 2 months youre gonna want a hi-busa.

Hales would know he's a motorcycle salesman. Salesman don't lie about anything! This is a pretty easy thing to understand man. You still live with your parents. You need to get money and move out of the house. Your parents probably just want you not to spend money on stuff you want instead of money on a house or apartment. If you're old enough to buy a sport bike, you should already have a house of your own or at least an apartment mom and dad aren't paying for. You want to buy a big boys toy? Get a big boys lifestyle!

Just listen to your dad, you are living with him so that means you go by his rules. Seems harsh, but he might just be saving your ass. Get a dirt bike and ride some show him you are responsible, arguing with him about it just makes it worse. If you show him you are mature enough to take his advice he might lighten up. Don't rush it, also you are wanting a pretty bad ass bike too. my mom never told me that i couldn't have one, my dad pretty much helped me get it, but my whole family rides so they were happy to see me gettin involved in the sport. But they knew I was responsible and that I could handle it. My mom still worries about me, but thats what parents do. Respect it, they are only looking out for you. He loves you and its not that he doesnt want you to have what you want, he just wants to make sure you are safe.

id say listen to your old man. besides you could get into it and lose intrest real fast. from my experience these are not cheap toys. im spending around 200 bucks ever two weeks on mine for parts and accessories and now i dont even want to ride any more. so now that i have spent over 7000 bucks on it i cant even get 4500 back out of it. on a side note damn some of you guys moved out real young. i moved out when i was 20 and i wish i stayied a lot longer and built up my finances but thats just me. i work and go to school full time and it make real long weeks in the fall and spring. while im oing to school i dont get a day off i work 3 12 hours shifts on the weekend and then spend my days at school from 8-4 the other 4 days a week. my take on it. kid say your money go to college get a good job then buy the toys you want after you have a good carear.

that is a tough one..your dad is just looking out for you. when i was a teenager i always wanted a bike, my mom was always, hell no! i moved out right after i turned 18 when i was still in high school and never had the money to buy one until last january. i bought it when i was 20. my dad comes over and helps me work on it and buys me parts for it now, my mom has gotten used to the idea, but she is still freaked. everytime there is an accident locally she calls me all paranoid. just realize that with motorcycle its typically either immature riding or the other guy. even the best gear will do nothing in some circumstances. unless you can convice your pops otherwise, i would say wait, i know that is not what you want to hear, but i waited like 5 years before i finally got a bike. another thing to think about that camaro pointed out, these things do not maintain themselves, you WILL put more and more money into a bike than you think. i know i have put more into mine than i paid for it.

I have to agree with everyone who says it's his house and his rules. if you don't have the $$ to pay for your own place, who is paying for college? Who will pay the insurance? Who is paying for your current auto and insurance? I would also agree with a poster who said thake the safety course. I'm sure that will help a little bit. Your dad has a very valid point, according to my state's motorcycle manual, more than half of ALL riders will have an accident within the first 6 months of riding. Do you honestly think that the half that did not have an accident were the ones who said "I'll be careful" and the half who crashed didn't care? As to bikes being more expensive than cars, if that were true, the people in GB and Europe would not own a single bike. Fact is that besides gas being cheaper, insurance is cheaper, maintenance is most often cheaper, and even parts are often cheaper. (you can do a lot of stuff on a bike that you can't touch on a car without a lot of specialized tools and knowledge) if you buy a new car, you are looking at $15k-$20k. If you buy a used car, be prepared to add tires and do plenty of maintenance as the car gets older. Plus, riding a bike keeps the wear off the car, so the car should theoretically last longer. Look at it this way, the federal govt says the average car costs $.48 a mile to operate, including purchase, averaged over the life expectancy. Do you think a bike costs more or less than that?

Hey kid, you got 133 posts on a CBR forum without owning a CBR. I wonder about people who post out here all the time when they don't even own a bike. They are usually kids (young adults) who are asking this very type of question.

ORIGINAL: ZJcrawler45 I'm 19 years old and have been riding quads and bikes for quite a while now, except i have never drove any of them on the road(legally). Now that i want to get a cbr600rr i've sold all my quads and finally have the money for one........Except there's a major problem! My dad says i cannot get one until i am 21 if i live at his house--Which basically means i can't get one until im 21, i'm a college student so moving out is out of the story. He says everyone he knows that has a bike has been in some type of evidence. And he always brings up how many people have died this spring on motorcycles just in out County alone. He also said i need to learn the rules of the road more than what i already know---yet i've been driving a car for 3 years and have had no accidents or even tickets.. I want a bike really bad and it would also save on gas money. I don't know what to do, and i DO NOT want to wait til im 21. It's like just taking away my hobby and it doesn't feel good. I completely understand about how he doesn't want anything bad to happen to me, but i am a responsible person. I think for the most part he's worried about the other drivers on the road... He's told me how many times hes pulled out in front of a bike and not even seen it. He also has cameras in his trucks at work for safety and last summer one truck recorded a motorcycle accident where you could hear him screaming right before he wrecked and later died. So i guess i'm asking you guys, how can i get my dad to let me have a bike?> Any info and help would be appreciated, i dont know what to do, its what i've wanted for so long and i finally have the cash for one and i get told NO. help And plus i've already bought all my gear and have taken the MSF course, now i have my license. i was 19(i think. i 20 now and about to be 21) when i got mine. my mom and whole family did not want to me to get one. they did not want me to die like my brother did in a car accident that year. but i talked my mom into buying it for me, but i am paying for it. everyone is fine with it now. i still live with my mom as many already know. i say if its something you really want there should be nothing in the world to stop you. and buy this "And plus i've already bought all my gear and have taken the MSF course, now i have my license." it looks like your already on your way to getting one. good luck. ps get a black one they look the sickes.
