Now for the unsightly holes left in the fairings

I cut out the plastic backing that the stock signals mount to from the inside witha  dremel and high speed cutter that looks like a drill bit. Be careful and go slow as not to damage the paint on the outside. I then made some mesh out of some extra window screen material I had. This was secured to the inside with a rubber band to hold it in place while I covered it with jb weld. I used the quick setting kind. An epoxy would also work.

Next I masked off the fairing and the opening and mesh with some black paint.

I apologize in advance for the quality of the pics. I used a camera phone as my digital cam was dead. Tomorrow I will post my solution to the rear turn signals and license plate bracket/light.

Very nice job Silver. I'm going to have to look into that as I hate the signals on the fairings.

Thanks. It was a pain in the ass. Took me the good part of 2 afternoons. Hopefully this write up will save some people from the pitfalls I had. I love how the bike looks now.

Excellent job -- I'm impressed.

What do you think about throwing some small flushmounts in there and having two sets of front signals?

i'd love the idea of a mirror mounted signal - it'd add a lot of visibility to my existing flushmounts.  i just wish my rear turn signals (clear alternatives tail and LED footpegs) were that visible.  my only concerns with your installation are removing the bosses, i think they are called, that center the cowl.  now, the bolts are clamping down on the fairing instead of the bosses.  how about using the stock mounting bracket, since it fits the bike, and modifying the signal mirror to work with it? also, where do the signal wires come through the mirrors? and will this installation be just as simple on a 600rr - are the 600 and 1000 mirrors the same?

Personally I think they are badass. Not as big as the GSXR and they are smoked so they blend in with the widescreen.  I have has a bunch of people tell me that they like them too.  Just my opinion.

And I have them hooked up to my hotboddies relay so they are on all the time.....they def help seeing the bike at night.
