I found these universal stands in a magazine (Cycle World Dec. 05, Page 125)and was wondering if anyone has them. They are at www.handyindustries.com and only cost $99.00 for both the front and back. Any comments or suggestions?

check out the ones from our sponsor Checkered Flag. I'm not trying to sell anyone here, but these poped up right after I orderd my $115 vortex and they look the same. Except you get front and rear for $100. Look at the caster wheels, four are better than two....

no problem... you guys can learn from my mistake. if I had waited a couple of days, I would have bought the ones from checkered flag. Hell, I still plan on buying them. I need to front stand, so I might as well buy the set and use my vortex as a spare.

Can you get the front wheel off with that style of stand? I have a set of those Checkered Flag Motorsports ones but i'm not sure because of how it holds the bike.

I'm looking for stands too. Since I have to get my bike in a tight space in my garage, these look really interesting: Redline Engineering. They allow you to rotate the bike 360 while up on stands. Not cheap, but I will probably go with these.

They have the regular (non-swivel) stands too.

The only downside to the swivel stands, is that they require spools. For those of us with an F4i, that can be an issue.

nice stands... not sure if I'd want the bike to move that easily.

The casters lock so it won't move if you don't want it to. I'm still stuck on whether or not I want to drill my swing arm for spools, though. Seems like a big step.

What kind of bike do you have? Most sportbikes produced in the last few years already have a threaded area on the swingarm where you just install the spools for use with the rear stand. Just make sure you get the right size and use locktite on the threads when you install them.

I know they're not the cheapest, but I've used Pit Bull stands on every one of my bikes. They are built very well and have that race team "bling" factor.

I drilled holes for mine. I got the kit from PitBull and they are great. Really easy to do. About 30 bucks or something to get the inserts and spools.

Back to my original question...Can you get the front wheel off with a front stand like the ones with the pins?

The Redline Engineering site has a video of a guy with both wheels off of his bike, rolling it around on stands. So, I'm pretty sure that you can remove the front wheel with a pin-type front stand.

OH, and where did you drill your swingarm? Did the PitBull inserts come with instructions or some kind of template to locate them properly? God, I'd hate to mess that up. It also seems that they would need to be pretty close to the same location to keep loading of the stand and spools nice and even.

Woogie, what year/model bike do you have? Like I said in my previous post, most sportbikes produced in the last five years at least have the threaded inserts already on the swingarm from the factory.

And yes, you can remove the front wheel with the pin type front stand. That is what they're for. You can actually remove the front wheel and the forks for servicing with the type of stand that goes into the steering head. The type that lift from under the forks just allow you to remove the front wheel.
