I think, repeat think, there is a point of diminishing return on more CCs.  A new 600, tuned correctly, and with a rider who isn't too big, should easily pull along with just about any bike.  It's the old power/weight thing. 

Next time, make it a race with turns, get inside of him, and use the weight of your bike against him. haha.
