I'm serious! I am so embarrased, but I cannot do it. Would someone please lable the steps that I have to take to get that darn thing off. There is maintenance to be done! :P I thought I just turn my helmet lock to where its unlocked and then pull up, but maybe im missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

On my 88 the key tumbler has an ear on the back worn off, so it does not turn the linkage rod to release the seat latch. My under plastic has a hole that I can take a flat screw driver and stick up into it and pry the linkage toward the rear of the bike to release the seat. I ended up taking the latch off and just leaving my cargo net stretched to my hand grab rail to hold the seat in place, I normally carry a backpack under it anyway so that it has quite a bit of pressure holding it down.

You need to turn the key more than just unlock the helmet lock.

After installing LED's in the tail section, I reassembled the bike and put the seat release linkage in 180 out. The next time I tried to release the seat nothing happened. I had to pry the seat up at the rear and using 10mm wrench, turn the nuts that hold the seat on and remove the seat. Sometimes it helps to put the bike on the center stand and sit on the back like a passenger and raise your weight up and then come down sharply and at the point of impact turn the key CCW. If the linkage is installed correctly this method should take any pressure off the locking mechanism.

My digital camera is dead so I did the next best thing, Look at part 12 it is the linkage arm that works the latch, it must be pushed to the rear. Part 15 normally does this, but on mine the key tumbler will not turn the part 15 linkage arm, so I had to manually use the screw driver to push the # 12 linkage to the rear to unlatch the seat. Hope this helps Thumbnail Image

If you want to do up a make-shift seat release, once you get the seat off, run some safety wire from the seat towards the rear of the bike and have it come out under the brake light. If you loop it a couple of time, slide a piece of rubber tubing over it, then tie it off you'll have a near indestructable seat release.

Part 13 on simtechs drawing is broken, I had the same problem. It has to be replaced and is not expensive but u will have 2 keys. The saddle can be opened using a screwdriver under the saddle pushing the lever.

Try and lift the seat up at the back and look inside to view the locking mechanism. Like with others, it is possible to use a screwdriver to open the lock and release the seat.

The seat on my 86 often gets stuck. It's always after Iv'e replaced it in a rush whilst on the side stand. In my case it's only one of the plastic hooks under the seat out of place jamming the seat. Its the a right pain to remove. Usually you can spot it because one side of the seat sits higher than the other. Hopefully yours is as simple as that.

new to the forum, but been on a CBR for the past 10 years. I replaced the stock seat on my 93 1000F with a Corbin seat, the first time I went to remove it to check the battery fluid level I could not turn the key to unlock it. After much fustration I figured it had to be jammed and since it worked great before I replaced the seat I assumed it should be a simple fix. Exerting quite a bit of rubber hammer force down on the passanger part of the seat and turning the key on impact (after trying to simply push down the seat and turn the key at the same time to the point of almost breaking the key) the latch opened. Since it's an aftermarket seat the latch hoop on the seat is just bolted in place so I used a couple washers as spacers to lower the hoop and it works perfect now. point of all this is that you may have inadvertantly bent the hoop on the seat into the seat or somehow the arrangement has changed and you need to push down on the passanger part of the seat and try turning the key at the same time. good luck!

Mine has the same lever as the part no. 12 in the above diagram. But I never had a helmet lock I just push the lever towards the rear with my thumb. The Hulmet lock may get in the way if this, but the point is I can reach it with my thumb. Some times I have to hit it as I move the lever to get it to release. Whe I get more important stuff taken care of I may buy the lock, it would be nice to lock the seat down. Sorta. Hope this helps, Patrick

Try pushing DOWN on the seat before turning the key, hold it down, turn the key, and (hopefully) CLICK !
