Taking it "slow" is the key to give extra reaction time; pay extra attention to the dreaded "turn in front of you" drivers, they seem to get worse in the rain. ATL has 20% to 30% chance seemingly every day so almost no getting around it. Only 2 types of rain bother me, the heavy down pours for obvious reasons, and the hard sideways rain, esp. if you get caught with any skin area exposed (feels like getting shot with a bee bee gun constantly).

I don't mind the rain either but I agree... equipment, taking it slow, but most importantly going smoothly. What I hate is wind.

Never ride in the center of the lane, thats where all the oil and bad stuff accumulates, try to ride in the tracks that other vehicles have went, that way there shouldn't be to big of a puddle after a car has went through it, and def. be smooth, no sudden change in direction or accel/decel. Give yourself plenty of stopping distance.... and did I mention just be smooth. Im sure a lot of us arn't motogp riders (pretty much all of us), but when they have to race in the rain, they still can slow down for the curves (from high speeds) and lean over far enough to slide the knee its just that their being really really (really) smooth. Not saying you should try to ride like a motogp rider, just be careful and ride as smooth as possible.

Riding in the rain is fine to me. I just slow down, and make lane changes slow and smooth. I rode in the rain for 3 1/2 hours on my way to Ohio a few weeks ago, no problem!

Its a common for me to get caught in the rain out of nowhere, so I'm used to it. Acually there is not much a problem, if your tires are good. I'm so used to it where I can take pretty decent twisties even when its pouring heavily. The only problem will be with the brakes, so just take it smooth.

I'm not a "fair-weather-rider". I'll ride my bike in and through anything and everything. I get a little more nervous with my 2007 cbr 600rr because of it's ram-air snout on the front... I don't want to get the enevitable huge puddle splash from a car beside me to go gushing down into my airbox and then down into my intake and destroying my motor. I tend to slow down and give myself alot more room than normal to do everything. Highways aren't bad, since you can tuck down and get away from some of the rain. Rain gear would be nice, but the best I've got is a rain liner for my mesh jacket (it helps, but water will still seep in through a few area's and it does nothing for my legs and feet/shoes). Even though I don't mind riding on the highways in the rain, it probably is a good idea to head to local streets and take the senic route. Any time you can get away from cagers wanting to fly around in the rain like it was a bright summer day is good advice in my book. The greater the speed, the greater the hurt, the less time to react.
