my advice is pull over somewhere and try to wait it out if you have the time.  i hate ridin in the rain.

take your time, don't be in hurry. Rain gear would be great, but I don't carry any. If you can get off the interstate and ride a city street it will help a lot. Got stuck in it about a month ago, the 1.5 hr ride home turned into 4+ hrs. Kept trying to pull over and wait it out, got off the interstate and it wasn't too bad. You can take your time, and not worry much about getting soaked and blown all over the roads by semi's.

OldFatGuy -> RE: ridin in the rain (8/1/2007 7:26:34 PM)

The semi's suck in the rain.  I think they enjoy flying by and blowing water up in your face.  Bastards!  [:D]

If you get caught in it, just go with the flow and don't let it get under your skin.  Laugh it off.  I'm not sure secondary roads are any better... I guess depends on how long it's been raining.  The interstates seem to get rid of the oily residue quicker because of more traffic - the secondary roads can be slicker.

Just slow down, give yourself more stopping room, etc. etc.  Just common sense stuff.

Orangebutter -> RE: ridin in the rain (8/2/2007 5:56:01 PM)

Riding in the rain is not a problem.  You better have good tires.  Take things a little slower and brake earlier and be less agressive.  It's so hot right now I kinda actually like it when it rains a little to cool me off.  I have been caught in 4 heavy down poors and the first time I was scared shitless.  But realized the tires stuck pretty good.  Take turns slower than normal,  leave it in a higher gear,  feather the clutch so on and so on.

If at anytime you are uncomfortable........Stop........Pull over.........Not worth you getting hurt.

The Hammer -> RE: ridin in the rain (8/5/2007 2:29:29 PM)

Here in the UK I ride in the rain more than I ride in the dry. Just be smooth.
Riding in the wet dont bother me, just cleaning the bike after does.

baileyjn -> RE: ridin in the rain (8/5/2007 2:39:17 PM)

Avoid any performance riding whatsoever. Obey the speed limit. Even the recommended limit for curves. Avoid traffic at all costs.

rangerscott -> RE: ridin in the rain (8/5/2007 2:42:54 PM)

I enjoy riding in the rain.    Am I weird?  [:-]

If you ride often, get a one piece suit and waterprooff boots and gloves.

Raven -> RE: ridin in the rain (9/11/2007 8:33:41 PM)

Yesterday, in the rain, I was braking and skidding at a stoplight. I had to put my foot down for a little extra braking power. It worked. Out in the flat desert, my bike and I are the tallest things around and when lightening strikes nearby I envision the effects of a downstrike upon my gas tank. There would only be charred bits of debris leftover. Every time I pull over, under an overpass, to change into raingear, it stops raining. Murpheys' Law? I love the rain! Pax, G.
