So after owning my bike for close to a yearish I believe I did my first attempt at weelies today.  I was just messing around, and I'm not a big believer in the whole clutch type of weelies just because I'm afraid I'm just going to flip it, so I was just messing around in first gear popping the front end up with just the torc from the bike.  My question is, is that a stupid way of trying them or a get saftey for a long long time :P

there's a topic in the stunt threads that will answer this for ya........or make you wonder more, haha. i think the majority of people that posted there said NEVER power it up, always clutch it.

i've made some attempts at clutching it up. i used to stunt the piss out of my quad that i had. but for some reason when the bike comes up i get nervous and dont have the reaction to gently let it back down, i end up letting off the throttle completely and it comes down kinda hard. i am afraid to try them anymore b/c i dont want to blow the fork seals since im doing them incorrectly.

Hehe yeah the clutch way just seems more dangerous.  I was just messing around in first gear nothing too big, but yeah.  My friend was trying the clutch way before and he totaled his bike because of it.  Haha.  So that's why I have my second thoughts about weelies in the first place.

Clutch it up, it's a lot safer than power up's. IMHO and others, there is far too much torque in first gear for the beginner. You should try clutching it up in second and riding it out, in saying that I mean find your happy medium for balance, leave the throttle at that point and ride it out, dont panic and let off of the throttle. Also when you are coming down blip the throttle a little bit so you dont give your self a tank slapper.

well while my bike was apart from my wreck i decided to try and pull my first few wheelies. i tried to power it up in first, but could only get the tire to seem to float. i tried different methods and everything i could think of, and it seems like i would have to get the bike up to about 8k rpms for anything to happen, with that still being just a float.
then i tried using the clutch. wwwaaayy easier. i would start accelerating about 1/2 throttle and at like 5k rpms just pull the clutch into the friction zone and release it really fast. this would just make the bike lunge forward real quick, which was good because it got me ready for what happened next. now i tried holding the clutch in for about a second or two, while giving the throttle a very, VERY slight increase in twist. dropped the clutch and Boom, front tired just popped up about a foot off the ground. i havent really tried to bring it any higher yet because a foot is good enough for me for now, but i thought i would share my experience as a wheelie noob. you should to clutch it up as its much easier. just remember to start off easily and slooooooowly work your way to longer clutch time and more throttle.

I'll give it a try clutching it tomorrow if there are no cars in this open road I go to.

While the rule of the stunter is NEVER power wheelie, even when i first wanted to learn and just to get the feel a bit i still think powering is ok. If your just blipping it to get the wheel a few inches to a foot off the ground just to experience the feel of it i think its ok. If then you decide you want to wheelie take the time and learn to clutch it, but again " i think" just to get a feel for that sensation of the wheel leaving the ground power away.

I think alot of people dont want to clutch it up cause they dont understand they have to just slip the clutch. I'm guessing the people that dont like it are dumping it anxd thats why it seems wierd to them.

^ yeah, like they're gonna loop it. all you do is get a extremely slow roll going then get it in the friction zone as said above. i cant wheelie for shit, but i do know that's how to get it up the best.
