I don't know about differences in laws, but insurance doesn't go up just because you got points. The insurance goes up if the insurance company finds out you got points. This usually occurs when they have to pull your DMV record. Mosts insurance companies don't just willie nillie pull records like that. If you have a state that reports it to your insurance company, than you would be screwed...but I think that is unlikely since that costs money and would defeat the purpose of giving the ticket to begin with. Usually when changing insurance companies, making a claim. What is worse, is if you are in an accident, your DMV record will most likely be pulled and your "past" history may indicate that you are most likely culpable as the one at fault. If you are going to attempt to fight it, or attempt a "plea bargain" you might get the fine and the points down. Sometimes just showing up for court they officer might approach you saying that I will lower ticket to X. It might be a long shot...but then again, it really depends on how they clocked your speed and the laws governing your land. I do know that there is a specific model radar gun that was used widely, but on certain model patrol cars, it would record 70 mph due to power flucations in the patrol cars of certain years. If you were going to fight the ticket, it would be best to prove reasonable doubt the device used to record your speed was faulty and might have miss recorded your speed. Making a personal attack on the police officer in court would hurt you. If you had a video camera proving that you were doing under that or experienced an overly abusive officer, than maybe you have a better case. If you only have 3 points, might be best to just suck it up and keep your nose clean for 2 years ( at least in PA, you lose 2 points for every year, if I'm not mistaken). If you are going to fight it, brush up on your legal skills. Oh, and the only other advice is slow the F down....Although, I can understand wanting to open it up once in awhile.

I got clocked doing 89 in a 55 down in BF Southern Ohio. Thought the limit was 65 and I just passed a car when the HP came over a hill and got me. I was clean so the HP wrote the ticket for 85. The 90 would have been 2 for speeding and 4 points for reckless opps. 31+ is an automatic reckless opps in ohio. Paid the ticket and calmed down a lil. Might be worth fighting so only the 70 will count but that depends on what reckless opps is in your state.

It is either she didn't really radar you going 100+ or she's being nice and isn't actually writing down what you were really doing. I've had tickets where i was doing 89 in 65 in my car and the cop wrote down for me 80+ so i would only get the 15 mph over and not the 24 over therefore giving me a higher fine to pay. But i guess that doesnt matter when ur doing 55+ over the limit, lol, tough break man, you live you learn, hope everything goes alright. remember, keep at least on wheel on the ground, and check and double check for our sneaky lil friends in blue. >she said she clocked me going 70 on the off ramp Sounds like she thought/suspected that you were going faster than 70, but couldn't get the info to prove it. If this is the case, i'd say contest it for sure...as in show up in court and make her testify as to exactly what she could prove and what she couldn't. Cops can write a ticket that says anything hoping that you won't challenge it, because if you do they'll have to admit that it was only their estimation of your speed and not a proven fact. The best thing to do in a case like this is to hire an attorney who can work the system in your favor. Even if they only get it reduced to a lesser speeding ticket, it's still worth the $300 or so to get him to do his magic. And if you tell him about the whole 'clocked at 70' thing, he may be able to do even better for you. I did this for both of my tickets and it was well worth it. Trying to get a prayer for judgement (or probation before judgement...whatever it's called in your state) may also be a good way to go. Did that for my second ticket, didn't get a ticket for the next 2 or 3 years and it disappeared.

No your honor, I was going 110, not 150. The officer was obviously wrong so you should totally left me off the hook." Call me a wuss but since you know you screwed up, just pay the ticket and deal with it. Now you know not to speed or at least not 55 over.

Ticketed for reckless driving, it was reduced to excessive speed. (Earlier in that week I had a 93 in a 65 -- that was a BAD week!)

i've used this forum for info for a while and thought i would give back, i live in az and i got a ticket for 90+ in a 35 in my stealth, it's criminal speeding http://www.azleg.state.az.us/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/ars/28/00701-02.htm&Title=28&DocType=ARS i had funny circumstances also i ended up going to traffic school bc i have a clean driving record otherwise suspension and jailtime. i wasn't radared i was paced but i went to court and the officer stated he was going 90 and i and another car i was racing "walked away from him" needless to say to fast isnt a legit speed for a legal document ,also the radar gun must be calibrated once a month in az FIGHT IT

Most small airports will rent you the runway ...Its a great way to open your bike up legally..Trust me its a gr8 way ...Ive had my 03 cbrf4i up to 130+ on a mile long runway ...plus a cop there to run speedometer checks..
