Hey guys,

Got the bike back up and in tip top shape.  Thought it was the head gasket so took out the engine swaped the head gasket checked the valve clearances(all were good)  Put the engine back in to the bike and fired her up ( 3 days worth of labour and $200 in parts and tools and oil and honda antifreeze and a filter.)  fired her up and what do you know there is oil in my coolant again #%@)#&!  so the only other place oil could be getting into the coolant was the oil cooler.  took off the cover and the heat sink for the oil and what do you know, the two o-rings on the inlet and outlet of the heatsink were basically gone.  So a trip to the honda dealer for o-rings was fruitless.  would have had to wait a week for them.  went to menards and as luck would have it they had the exact two i needed that were a dollar for two.  I put the oil cooler back together, filled the coolant, topped off the oil, and what do you know it works.  3 days of labour and $200 bucks for a  one dollar fix and 15minutes.  Haha.  What can you do...

Real simple solution.

Tell the parts and service head, and owner of the shop that the $200 you spent will go towards the bill when they fix it right.

If they give you any problem, just tell them, in a calm voice, this is business afterall, tell them that failure to do so will result in much more damage by word of mouth than $200. Tell them you'll make it your daily activity to recommend to anyone who rides not to frequent there.

Ask them if that's a deal.

If it's not...make good on your threat, and go somewhere else for your servicing.

I got so fed up with my local Honda shop, I went to one 30 miles away. They did things right. I watched.

The other guys, the local guys, changed two tires, and by the time I got home the chain adjusters had nearly fallen off.

In short...

Honda of Decatur =  Good

Honda of my city = crap...

Also, inform them that you'll be writing a very formal letter to Honda Motor Corp. (Japan)

Send it special delivery.

That local shop will have angry, samurai sword swinging CEO's out the ying yang.

Honda Corporate does  not f*** around.

So. I just did the same thing.

Ripped apart my entire head, ordered new head gaskets, accidentally ruined my cam timing sprocket and timing chain in the process.  Ordered new ones of those.

Then, just for shits, I looked at the oil cooler, and the O rings are shot.  Goddamnit. lol

So now I just need to figure out where to buy those O-rings.

I had the same problem.  Except I compression checked the cylinders and confirmed it wasnt the head gasket.  That narrowed it to water pump, or oil cooler.  Went to oil cooler first since it was easy and same deal.

Honestly I would recommend to anyone who hasnt changed the seals in the oil cooler to do all of them your next oil change.  Its like $15 for two gaskets and two o-rings, but worth a hell of alot more to not be stranded, and to not have to flush/clean the system.  The gaskets go between the two halfs of the cooler, between the cooler and block, and the o-rings go inside it.

Where did you get your O-rings??  I was doing a compression check but was #$)@ing stupid and had the chain ziptied up when I did it.  Now I wish I had done the compression check loooong before I even opened up the top.

On the slightly bright side, Ill have basically a rebuilt engine after this that I shouldn't have to worry about for a good long time.
