Never had a problem running car oil in my bike..... been running Mobil 1 15w-50/10w-40 in it for the past 129,000 miles without a single problem (switched to full syn when bike had 5000 miles).  I did try Motul 300v and Mobil 1 MX4T (now Racing 4T) at some point along the way, but never noticed any difference so I always went back to the auto oil.  Still runs like new and original clutch grips 100% perfect and smooth, so I can''t complain at all

Yer , sounds about right thirdgenlxi ...
I had a VF4 1000 before my CBR and all I ran in it for a million klms (ok not quite a million :-) was Castrol high performance oils..

Years ago my in my new 1975 Kwaka 900 ZIB ( I ran it for 90,000 klm /10 years ) I used a shit load of expensive oil ..
I just got sick of chucking what looks like new expensive synthetic oil out every 2000 klm that costs a ton of bucks every time ...
( These days I have no real use for the old oil (4lts every 4 weeks or so)..
our car is a 4wd Landrover Discovery deisel  )

I think like has been mentioned here ...its the time yu leave the oil in, more than the type/brand of oil ...

Anyway , I went and put the new "Castrol Edge" in her this afo
(before I got the replies to my question)

and took her for a quick 100 klm run around our windy bay road here and all seems great ... no clutch slip, no over heating ... seems ok ...

Illushun - how much does "semi-synthetic Golden spectro 10/40." cost??

Anyway thanks for your advise everyone in any case ...

:-)

Good suggestion Lone Ryder :-)
That oil might be appropriate If you were going to run your engine at 10,500rpm for 3 days ...hmmm??  then yu might "cook" the whole engine just nicely..
Could also do some frying on the muffler too I spose while yu were at it ?    :-)

Anyone here ever use Shell Rotella?  Its a diesel truck oil that costs $10 /GALLON.  It meets motorcycle oil standards, but has never been officially ''approved'' as a motorcycle oil.  I found out about it in another forum.  When I run out of my current oil supply, Im trying it.

The guys who use Rotella swear by it.  There are many of them with a variety of bikes.  And it''s not as if they simply asked their engine if it liked the oil or not. They sent the oil in for analysis (like theyre supposed to), and found it to be a very competetive product!

There is data out there showing that this oil conforms to all the requirements of JASO MA motorcycle oil.  It just doesnt say it on the bottle.  Supposedly Shell does not bother having it approved as such because they dont want to alienate their diesel customer base.  It makes sense.

What is motorcycle oil anyway?  Just ordinary oil!  Most bikes require SJ or better (non-energy-conserving).  Old outdated stuff!!  There''s nothing that special about motorcycle oil.  These companies just take people for $8 /quart because they know they can.

I use Rotella T 15W40 (Conventional) every 1K miles.  Nice and inexpensive, and a good oil to boot!

Been using Rotella as well.  Performs as good or better than most "motorcycle oils" as confirmed by many used oil analyses.  My oil changes only cost me about 10-12 bucks.  9 bucks for the oil and about 2 bucks for the filter.
