I have a 01 f4i and was just getting into wheelies and shit at the time, so I decided to go -1/0 520 conversion. It is perfect for the street and I can clutch up 60mph stand ups in 3rd easy, I am eventually going to go to a stunt set up so i can start doing lots and learning circles. Speedo says around 67-72 at 60 or so but I can take out r1s all day draggin as well. I would go -1 front and 520 conversion, I believe like vermino said it actually takes off 4 lbs rotating mass and it does make a big difference. My chain has lasted at least 1,000 clutch wheelies and you can't even tell it is worn, so don't worry about the chain. I got my whole set up from denniskirk.com for like 150 or something vortex sprokets and rk chain. I think that is the way to go to get a torquey  street bike with out losing a lot of speed and you can get a speedohealer if you want.  hope this helps... later

yeah at least if you do the 520 conversion with -1/0 and you dont think it's torquey enough - then just have to go up in the rear with a 520 sprocket. But seriously 520 conversion is a nice mod to do if your going to do sprockets.

Ok...so I went to the motorcycle dealership yesterday and talked to a stunter that worked there.  I've decided to go with a Renthol Sprocket set, either -1/+2 or -1/+3, and an EK SRX 120 rivet link chain.  I had my mind made up for a 525 yesterday but now you guys are makin me doubt my decision.  The thing is, I tend to put off maintenance and not lube my chain often enough, so the 525 having lower maintenance is a big plus for me.  Any thoughts on this?  I'm too lazy to keep up completely w/ chain maintenance even though I know I should.

Maintenance is the same on a 525 and a 520 as far as I know. The only difference is that you are losing 3lbs of rotating mass. You still have to lube them both just as often. You may have to tighten your chain a little more often with a 520 but I haven't really noticed a big deal more maintenence with mine. You go with what you want but I am telling you for the street I am totally satisfied with my -1 520 kit. I cannot even get on it all the way in first with out the wheel coming up and then shiftin in to 2nd its right back up, and that is just drag launchin it. So I am telling you that will be plenty for the time being, when your ready to get into slow shit then you are going to have to gear it again. But do what you want. check it out at denniskirk.com the stock kit is 8lbs and the rk quick accel kit is 5lbs http://denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=805556&store=Main&catId=415&productId=p80511719&leafCatId=41507&mmyId=6944

have to agree with twistatech - the 520 shouldnt havent anymore maintance as the 525 - it will wear out before the 525 but that's like saying "what will break first, wood or steel?". the 520 conversion will be less rotation mass on the engine which makes it alot easier on the engine itself. with lubing and everything, hey i'm the same way man - i just want to ride my bike, not work on it everyday.. but there are days you wash your bike but just look at your chain and if it looks kind-of nasty, then put it on the stand and clean it off with a rag - there are some degreasers you shouldnt use on the chain but i'll try to find the post of which not to use.. once it's clean, just wipe it off and then lube it.

i mean it's a for sure thing to do a 520 conversion and at least the front sprocket, and if you ever want it more torquey, then just buy a single rear sprocket later on. Also "Driven" makes a rear sprocket and chain colors if you about style =P (also a good company)

how many miles you have on that chain you got on right now?

here is a quote from Baxsom with information about a 520 kit in my inbox when i was asking about the kit myself

quote:

ORIGINAL: BAXSOM

one of the main reasons that the guy that owns hooliganbiketech did the rear only is ease of install.

-1 in the front is a great idea because it gives the same acelleration as +3 in the back.

15/43 is a pretty common mod on the 04/05 models because they come with a 41 tooth stock

i did 15/43 because i found the entire kit at an unbelievable price. if i had it to do over again i would go 15/44 on my 06 because it came originally with a 42 tooth rear.

you cant go wrong with a -1/+2 combo

as far as 520, that is hit or miss, a lot of people say you wont notice the difference but less rotating mass makes the bike handle better and take off quicker because less hp is used just to get the wheel turning.  especialy if you use hardened aluminum sprockets.  I have AFAM sprockets and a DID ERV3 chain in 520, i like it a lot and even after 1500 hard miles on it no stretch yet.  other good sprockets are sprocket specialist, driven, or renthal.

supposedly they are getting better but a lot of people are saying to stay away from vortex aluminum.  i guess that they arent hardenening their aluminum.

RK makes good chains as well. i just went with the DID because it came with the kit.

hope this helps

^^ this guy knows his Sh*T too.. if i had a mentor, it would be him muhaha

everybody always says that vortex sprockets are bad because they are not hardened, but i havent had a problem, man i am telling you that you can get a whole kit from denniskirk for like 150 or something. i think it is more expensive to do it piece by piece, but do what you want. if its a good brand and you like it then go ahead and buy it... later

like i said, it was baxsom quote - not mine.. i'm still pure stock on my bike.

also 2QK4U2C - stick with a kit if you can. it's alot cheaper to get a chain kit (with sprockets). your better off PMing Baxsom about that Renthal Product - it seems like the front is steel and the back is alu alloy..

The manager of the bike shop who i talked to (who is also a stunter) said that Rental sprockets are awesome...but that their chains suck.  He recommened EK SRX 120 chain.  That's why i can't do a kit.  He said Renthal sprockets are the way to go b/c they are made from one bock of medal, not stamped like other sprockets, and are therefore superior in quality.

i would try to find a chain kit instead of doing individual buys.. i mean there is alot of sprockets that are just as good as Renthal with a nice chain. If he recommended it, you should ask him for a discount or something - usually they will.  or ask for another recommendation for a chain kit for your bike.

i mean if you want to flush out the money for the best, go for it.

can't wait to do mine myself - god my 1Krr already has enough torque but muhaha..

I payed 150.99 , . Vortex sprockets and RK chain, they are 132$$$ now here is what it says about the sprockets...... (Might be free shipping, I don't know though)
  • made from S45C induction hardened high-carbon steel, shot peened and zinc plated
  • These rear wave sprockets last three times longer than aluminum and cost less
