Ok...so I really didn't wanna change the gearing on my bike (2000 CBR F4) but now I'm considering it. I do have a couple questions though: - How can I fix the spedo and odo after changing the gearing? To do it myself is it easy and what materials will I need? How much will it cost if it's too complicated to do myself.
- What is the most minor gearing change that I could/should do? (e.g. -1 in front and same in back) I DON'T want it TOO torquey, just a little bit more...as this is NOT solely a stunting bike. Also, I want to stick w/ the 525 chain rather than a 520 conversion b/c it is stronger and will last longer.
- What brand of Sprocket and Chain do you recommend? What material sprocket should I buy?

1. Screw spedo healers (they run around a 100 bucks or so, in case you decide to get one), just go with the speed of traffic .. Since your looking for minimal adjustment I really don't think you would need one. I went -2/+1 (which is like going up 5 in the rear sprocket), so I noticed a huge increase in torque. (then again me and some of my friends are going +80 total in the rear for our practice bike.. can't wait..) 2. The most minor? I would say 1 or 2 up in the rear.. 3. I have vortex sprockets and a regina chain (520) and haven't had any problems so far. Hope some of that helps.

get a speedo if your thinking later on your gonna sell your bike. putting on fake miles do count and if your only going 35mph and your bike is saying it's going 65mph - well you do the math.. but if your keeping the bike forever or intill your break it to pieces - then F it.. just my 2 cents... god i love JZhales and Err - always know how to make me laugh, they get right to the point and not even suttle about it.. good sh*t

If you want to try just a cheapo fix you can just get a -1 front also, just that sprocket will only cost ya $25 and can change it in like 10 minutes. See if its enough, if not order a rear later.

I read this somewhere, is it true?: -1 front = 10mph off top end speed, +1 rear = 3.5mph off top speed. So is +3 rear equal to roughly -1 front? If so do you think I would even notice much of a difference if i went 0/+2? I will be getting a spedo healer...is it complicated to install?

yes - 1 down in the front is the same as +3 in the back.. usually people do -1/+2. it's better to do both the sprockets and get a new chain as well (unless it's pretty new chain) but i would go with a 520 conversion kit.. i mean if you want to stick with 525 then go for it - buy a front sprocket and throw it on.. but from my knowledge -1/+2 with a 520 conversion is a nice little setup. tell us what you want to do with your bike, you look for just an all out stunter or a nice torquie street bike? here is some nice reading material - http://www.hooliganbiketech.net/, you can do a couple of little mods to it (like flapper mod) but read up about the AFAM 43T Rear Sprocket - also it talks about the installation of Speed-o-healer, it seems not very hard.. you will need a buddy or a radar detector to figure out how to figure out your MPH for speed-o-healer (it's not that hard tho, just alittle time consuming) but once it's done, IT"S DONE!.. i seriously want to do -1/+2 520 conversion to my bike but i have my eye on something else right now. if you want to check out the kits - http://www.motomummy.com/store/home.php?cat=270 - i dont know about our sponsors, but just ask around.. havent found the best deal yet myself. but there was a online store if you bought the chain kit, you can get the speedohealer for a discount with it.. dont know if it was motomummy or not (they changed up their website alot). hope this helps you out a bit..

What I want to do w/ the bike...ok, well I love stunting and wanna be able to get my wheelies up more easily. On the other hand I do use this as my main form of transportation so I ride it everywhere, therefore I don't want it to wheelie everytime i accelarate kinda hard. Also, I have my girlfriend on the back a lot and w/ that extra weight (about 110 lbs) it'll wheelie much more easily (bad thing...she'll kill me) so I don't want it TOO torquey. I was thinking either -1/+0, or -0/+2. The reason I don't really want a 520 conversion is that I'm really hard on chains and I know that the 525 is more durable and will last me longer. Also, it won't streatch as easily right? My shit is always way too loose... Are the benefits of the 520 conversion just cuz its lighter? If i'm that desperate for weight I'll loose a little weight myself (or is it b/c it's easier for the bike to pull a lighter chain?). Also, I don't really know how to do any work on my bike myself, so just buying -1 in front and switching it back and forth isn't really an option for me as i have absolutely no clue how to do that. Btw...I need to change both my sprockets and chain anyway asap so I'm buying all of them soon. I'll take a look at those links a little later Vermino... thanks a lot for your help everyone.
