This trip sounds awesome. Kinda odd that I was at the Texas State Fair today with the family and my wife brought me some brochures to Big Bend Tx. Then here I see it tonight.. It must be a sign. I would be coming from Dallas (if I get to go) and have never been on a trip this long. What kind of provisions would you guys suggest?

well ... really .. just a few pair of cloths to change in to each day ( we dont need any stinky ppl !) a rain suit ... last time i was there we hit some ran toward the end of the ride .. and money . cellphone, ect. nothing out of the normal if you where going on a car trip .. just ... if you have a blow out .. your SOL :P you might want to start taking some good trips around that area . your looking at 9 hours from austin . your looking at about an 2 hours from austin from the south side of dallas ... your looking at 11 hours one way if you try to do it all in the same day .. or you can drive down to waco and stay the night at my place and then the few that are going with me from around here can all ride down to the meeting spot in Austin,tx .... i have not got any word on how many are willing to ride it or who want to trailer them down there . i would rather ride ..but if the majorty want to trailer them down there then that will be ok to i guess

I would much rather ride than trailer, thanks for the info. I have a buddy who is interested as well. I just have to see if the vacation time is availiable when the trip comes around.

Didn't know you were planning over her too!

I still really want to go, but I have a few things that I am worried about on the bike.  First off is I am not even pushing 100 miles a tank right now, but by the time March rolls around I should have my new tank on there that hold another 1.5 gallons, as well as having my carbs synced which is screwing up my MPGs.  The other thing is, it's still old, new(er) engine, but it's still old.  Did anyone say anything about trailering?  I would like to ride, but if someone had a trailer just in case that would be a settling thing to know.

Then again, you know I am hoping to have another bike by that time as well, but I don't know if that is going to happen or not.  Don't count me in quite yet, but I am going to do everything I can to make the trip.

lol yes sir . the more i can get the more fun it can be ! i would like ppl just to do this ride to show them what a ride can come to . that sometimes traveling a distance can be a good thing !  no one has said much of anything just yet ... i have 3 votes for riding  i want to ride .. another guy and your self . get that bike running good  i'm not going to get a head count tell jan. gives ppl 3 months to ask off get some money gathered up and get there plans set .. i'm part of the Honda club so.... if anything happens to my bike while i'm on the road .. i'm pretty much coved for the most part :) gas...tire goes down .they will take me to the nearest Honda shop .. yada yada yada its great ! so if you run out of gas well take some out of mine put it in yours and call them and have them bring me that 2 gallons ! :)

Ok, just a question... Is anyone bringing their significant others or family????  My wife is ticked I am taking a vacation without the family... LOL, I am still planning on going tho. She will get over it by March... I told her she could follow in the truck if she wanted. Figured extra tire, fuel, food etc, wouldn't hurt. But she hates to drive. Just wondering if anyone else is dealing w/this?

hehehe .. naaa buy i'm singel now so .. i dont have that problem .. but if she wants to come bring her man . it will be a good trip for the both of you .. and rasco is worryed that if he takes his F3 down there it may not make it the full trip .. and theres no telling what might happen . having a truck would be nice in case somthing bad happens ... ( had a guy go down in 06 ... but he got lucky and the damange was not to bad so he was able to get it rideable again .

I'll keep working on her. I don't mind, if no one else does. Any idea on the travel plans? Overnight stops, time frame of travel, towns, etc...Also, I've been looking at tank bags but I am wondering if they get in the way on aggressive corners? I like to have a map in front of me as I ride. Tapped inside of my visor is not working to well..LOL

yea sunbeam there going good .. plan right now is to meet up in Austin ( for the northern and eastern/southeastern ) ppl and then head toward fort Stockton... we will pickup rasco on I-10 in SA . then all the other guys we will all meet in fort Stockton. (will be in fort Stockton about 7pm-9pm fri.) get up about 8 or 9 am sat. ride all day . get some sleep .. get up Sunday ride to Carlsbad caverns spend the day there .. ride back to big bend .. head home monday . your looking at about 400 bucks round trip there and back . ( thats if your one way trip is 500miles) what i really need to know is the guys that are going . how many are really gonna ride down there and how many plan on just trailering the bike down there ? i really want to ride but if most ppl are just gonna trailer there bike down there . then i'll have a truck and trailer .. i can haul about 3 bikes total . and if that happens i have 2 guys from the waco area that i would split the ride with. .. but its up to what everyone wants to do . from Austin to fort Stockton the last time it took us about 9 hours . that was doing 80 on highway 290 and 90 on I-10 so .. just to give you guys a head up . as far as the hotel goes . when we all meet up everyone pays then . before anything. we will find one person to hold the money and that person is gonna be in charge of making sure the room is paid for ! or rooms .

my fault gone_broke.. i'm  bounceing between 3 boards trying to keep everything stright :)  but thats the plan as of right now ..  where you going to be comeing from ?

I show 9 hours from Rowlett, but that does not include traffic. What time did you plan on leaving Waco?
