is the battery in the F4i notably weak? i have been having problems with it lately and have been stranded a couple times (not too badly). like if i leave the key on for about 2 mins and talk to someone, shes dead and not enough juice to start it. im putting a 2A charger on it for the afternoon, and seeing what that does, but would a battery be covered under the factory warranty? its only like 3 months and 1300 miles old.

my 06' battery is only 14 months old (bike has 1900 miles now) and i left my key on for a couple minutes about 250 miles ago. came out to start the bike and the engine would barely turn over. ended up just bump starting her. weird thing is i haven't had a problem since.

hayden, my old battery did the same exact thing, but it only took me 10 seconds for it to drain! i replaced it with a dvolt gel battery (www.dvoltbatteries.com). I havent tried testing how long my bike will last with out turning on the engine, but for the most part, my new battery works great

The original Honda battery that cam with my bike sucked. It died after 8000 miles /16 months. I did leave the ket on maybe 3 times and drained it to zero so part of it was my fault, but either way, every year and a half  I plan on getting a new battery whether it needs it or not.

my bike is still under the factory warranty does anyone know if this is covered? i used a slow charger the other day, charged it to full charge, parked it and 36 hours later it was dead.

Don't know if it's a short or something else, but looks like something is draining your battery.  I have the stock battery on my '05, and never have any issues.  Even when I plug in my battery tender, it charges for about 2 seconds, and then changes to the green light.

factory warranty doesn't usually cover such things as batteries, brakes, and other parts that are considered maintenance parts.

Hmm, I have an 04 got my bike last Sept haven't had battery issues at all. And have since put 16,500 miles on the bike. Have never had an issue starting it or having my battery die.

I realize you haven't had it very long, it's pretty much up to the dealer.

your the (atleast) 15th person ive found online with this problem. i have the same problem (bikes 14 months old). ive had the same thing (long rides = fine). it seems to be more and more common with the 06''s

i bought a battery from the store (it was an 05 f4i battery) and it didnt fit my 06. the 06 battery is almost half the size of the 05 battery. im assuming thats a big problem with the 06 (smaller battery).

im a bmw tech and have done draw tests, charging tests, etc. the only thing i can find is the battery is toast. im switching to another brand, and will see how that does.  ill let you know what i find

Is the stock Battery a YUASA on your bikes?  Those are generally top quality batteries.

All you have to do is load test the battery to determine if that''s the problem (any bike shop should do this for free).

It''s the battery.  I nursed a couple years out of my 06 battery, with many bump starts followed by many e starts (somew estarts less than a couple minutes of riding after a bump start).  I think they must have had a bad batch of batteries for the 06 model F4i as that seems to be the only year everyone has trouble with.  I just replaced the battery and problem was solve.  BTW, I had never left me key on, cept for once on my 1000RR, which was left on all day.  Charged that battery up enough to bump start it and rode it home, put a tender on it and haven''t had any issues out of that battery.  Coincidentally, the 1000RR and the F4i use the exact same battery.

lol wierd. My 04 still with original battery still has no problems now with 33,500 miles. And I have a habit of leaving my lights on sometimes after turning it off and no problems cranking back up. Wonder if it was a bad batch or something.
