hey i felt the same way with my bike man - i was quoted for a 600RR but then the dealer talked me into a nice deal for the 1000RR, then when i got it home the insurance agency is like "oh well that is 3x the price of the 600cc's bike)

what i would try to do is get a package deal or something.. if you have a car, put them on the same insurance agency. Keep getting price quotes from companies (i got GEICO) but my parents put their truck and my 69 camaro on the plan too - so it dropped it down greatly (plus it's in Idaho)

Also it's a must to take the MSF class for the insurance discount - talk to them and ask about the MSF class and if they offer a discount on it. this could be from 5-10% off i've heard.
you can also put lo-jack and some type of protection on the bike and then drop the thief insurance on it (if you feel safe enough)

I wish there was some other way man - my parents have two houses (one in Idaho and one in Vegas) so i brought it up to Idaho for insurance and registation and then take it on vacation down to vegas for the winter - this saves me tons of money because i'm not in the city.

your gonna have to do alot of quoting but hey - that's how insurance is. try GEICO, Progessive, All-state..

they are just looking at your age and the bike - it's like looking at a match and a gallon of gasoline (hey i was 18 once, i know how they treat us).. use your parents if you can, make yourself partial rider or something..

18 and on a liter bike you are screwed.  pure and simple.  statistcially your are a huge liability, no pun intended there.

all you can do is open that wallet and watch the money fly out of it, or sell it and buy the 600.

I got my insurance when I was 22 for an 04. Just liability and theif but its only $27 a month. I have Drive which is thru Progressive. Just look for a small company that goes thru a bigger insurance company. They can save you money because they get lower premiums due to all of their accounts they hold with the bigger company.

Raise those deductibles and lower your coverages.

Try to find an insurance agency that deals with multiple companies and see what they can do.

Also join a bike club, like the honda bike club you will get if you bought new. That usually gets you a discount.

BUT my only question to you is: ARE YOU NUTS!!!!!!

6 months riding a motorcycle and you purchased a liter race bike with ~150hp!!!!

You should have started off with something smaller because you have a lot to learn yet riding wise.

yeah i'm almost 22 with just a liter bike
i pay $212/month full coverage in Idaho and it's attached with all the other vehicles

Age is very important - so get a fake ID and call yourself Mclovin haha (just remember, over 55 will start to make the price go back up because now your an senior on a liter bike)

$200 a month?

I am 41 but I only pay $353 a year for full coverage 50/100 and uninsured plus $250 deductible.
If you can afford to pay $200 a month for $0 deductible why not cut your price by 75% and change the deductible to $200. Then you can have $2000 a year to spend on something else.

I pay 419.00 A YEAR.....FULL COVERAGE. I have a $500 deductible though...
State Farm
32 yrs old
04 CBR 1000

$200 a month for insurance is insane. For my bike, 2 SUV's and home owners insurance $203.15 a month.

Y'all scare the sh*t out of me when I see how much you are paying.

I forgot to mention that your insurance rates are also figured according to your credit history. So the better your credit the better your rate.

Thanks Taylorac. I haven't completely lost my mind. But everyday I go to work I get closer and closer.

This motorcycle definately helps me keep my sanity.

don't go progressive. their really expensive.

try statefarm and if they ask how long have you had your license? just tell them you got it over a year ago. the insurance agents have no way on checking how long have you had it. i recently got my license and only been riding less than 6months and my insurance for a full-coverage is only 400+ a year. i got a bad driving record. i got 1point on my record with about 7tickets in 2years. LOL, don't ask.

Dude all the insurance agent has to do is make a call to the dmv and they kno how long youve had your license. That and state farm just as high unless you have other vehicles or policies with em.

I been riding since 16, I finally just got my linsence recently. Previously owned 636 and xb9r buell.
I been ridng without insurance for 2 year already, and now I just recieved a letter from the dmv, saying that they will cancle my registration if I dont get a coverage.
