If Harley goes all out to build a sport bike, and it stinks, they've damaged their brand. Better to leave it to Buell. The risk doesn't seem worth the reward. The sportbike field is intensely competitive, with huge R&D expenses, two-year product cycles, and low profit margins. For the kinds of bikes Harley builds now, there really isn't any competition. If you want a Hog, a metric cruiser won't do. They're really just competing with themselves, having to do just enough to get their current riders to want to upgrade to a newer model, and make an entry-level bike that's decent and affordable enough to get new riders into the family. Besides, they make most of their money licensing t-shirts and belk buckles anyway.

harley did make these for the road, only made exactly what ama needed to race (500). they went for a pretty penny. they had more issues than they could keep up with so they stopped production. im an american to the core, a soldier, and ive always been raised on american made stuff. my father, and grandfather were die hard chrysler fans. my grandfather retired from daytona international raceway. i always will go for an american made item first, but i agree with my father as a honda fan and if harley made a comparable sportbike id be first in line to get one. good post there devil dog.

Ya know... w/ the phase out of air cooled...Not that they would...who's help'n them build there w/coolers, anyway... I don't think HD, will go head to head w/ the beull/rotax, but they could possibly do a more modern(than typ HD) sport touring model... it would be w/cooled... I cant help but think they are getting help, much like Porsche, w/ the v-rod. Has anyone heard if the new w/cooled is a inhouse engine????... or any specs???? I'd give my left one... fror a vr 1000... please, in orange, on the other side!!!! Free and clean, Ripp'n
