I have just bought an 06 600cbr rr and I was told by the dealer that if I am still not comfortable with the height after I have put 1000kms on the bike, they can lower the seat height for me. Other friends of mine with bikes have told me that if they lower the bike the handling will be compromised. Any thoughts? Also has anyone put an alarm on their bike, what price should I be looking at for a decent alarm.

If you can plant both foot on the ground why lower it? If you can plant both toes on the ground I'd keep it like that.
I lowered my 07 cbr with the 3"1/2 links and now I am able to ride it with both toes. I'd like both foot flat on the ground but oh well alls fine and dandy.
As for performance, everyone and everywhere you read on this forum will say yes it alters the performance.
As far as my riding is concern though hell I can't even get out of 1st gear without the bike going slower than 1-3 mph.
If I let loose any faster than that it feels like that one youtube movie where the granny is holding that lease to that great dane and the great dane taking off with grandma.
If your mind and thoughts ALREADY centers around the height thing then I would lower it.
If you truly were after performance the height thing would of been the last thing you'd think about, hell it shouldn't of even came up cause you'd be like screw it I want performance and SPEED!
I think it's easier and quicker to snap the seat cover off to disable the alarm than it would be to cut thru a U lock and or chain links. I'd got those first, in my opinion.

performance doesnt always mean raw speed
in this case lowering the bike alters the geometry and it will not handle as well in the corners

When I first got my CBR I thought the seat was a little high too. After riding it for awhile and just getting used to the way the bike handles and feels, both going and stopped, I got used to it. As long as you can get 1 foot down you should be ok. That's how I started until I got more comfortable on it.

how tall are you? I am 5'6" and I can get both toes down barly and if i lean the bike over i can get one flat foot down and the other foot will not touch. I think my 03 cbr lower then my friends 99 R6 that I tried before i got my CBR, although it mabey just be psycological. anyways, there are alot of short riders out there, feet on the ground seems like more of just a confidence issue, once your moving it doesnt matter. all though short guys will always look like an idot trying to back out of a parking spot, it takes me 5 million tip toe baby steps.

I am 5'5'' and don't have a problem on mine I just don't get on the bike backing it out of a spot due to I don't want one of my toes to slip out and me drop my bike. I can get both toes down at a light on my '06 but on my friends '06 gsxr I can almost get both feet down. Stick with honda though don't lower if you can get at least a toe down.

Absolutely right about the confidence issue. I want to be Absolutely confidence that I want get hurt :). Aslo easier to take off at stop lights and signs knowing you can balance right away either way on the left or right side(being able to plant both foot on the ground)
That part about backing up on tippy toe sucks big time too so I too just get off the bike then back it up by walking the bike into park.

Well I can get one foot down flat-footed no problem. I am 5'7 but have a long upper body and short legs. I think once I buy better riding shoes I should be able to tip-toe both feet, since right now I am just using running shoes.

i just bought a 04 600rr and i can bearly flat foot im 5'8'. but if you honestly think about it how often fo you WANT to touch the ground... lol i knwo id rather not. lol i just stop at lights with my left foot down and my righ tfoot on the pegs. And i seem to have more control getting off the bike to back it up.
