Whats something good to clean the rim before applying rim tape? Also, are there any tricks to putting it on straight?

I should note, I am not remving the wheels to do the job. Thanks for tips.

Jared

I used simple green to clean them. Put the bike on both stands and use a pencil to draw a guide line as you spin the wheels. Once the line is there the tape will be EASY to put on straight.

Buy the pre-curved in 1/4 sections type .. much easier imo.

I bought mine pre-curved. I cleaned it with some standard decreaser then with some windex. Make the wheels are someone warm otherwise the tape won't stick. If you have stand they will help out alot. This guy made his own applicator and it looks like it would work really well. Hope this helps.

whatever you do dont use the plastic applicator that some come with. no big thing to clean unless real greasy. then degrease then soap/water. you do need the stands or your in for a long painful process. just take your time and the tape is forgiving but dont push it, thats why you take your time. other than that just prepare to know that it wont be perfect and you will love them when you are completely done. have fun.

all you need is rubbing alcohol and a rag. unless your rims are painted then just scrub with dishsoap and water.
