I agree, but the performance numbers are what sell bikes. The new 07 Gixxer is ugly, beak nose, big ugly pipes, but it still sells more than the 06 and 07 Honda CBR1000RR's do. The Performance #'s make people see the looks differently. They tend to except Ugly. You'll see when the not so good looking 08 CBR1000RR's performance numbers come out, people will see it looking acceptable and buy it.

ORIGINAL: RICHS65 O.K., I started this thread because I was skeptical about the funny way of Honda's 08CBR1000RR's disappearing act. I am now convinced this is the real bike. Until I see otherwise. If I didn't see it with my own two eyes, I would not be typing this right now. I meet with my buddy(35 year friendship) today and he was at the Dealer show. He showed me the pictures of the two bikes that were there in his own iphone. There were people standing around the bike and everything. Unless Honda has a number of test bike dummie 08 1000's around it should be the real deal. He said it's not as bad as the pictures circulating around looks. The fit and finish are typical Honda. The bike is very compact(cbr600ish and Motogpish). More things to look forward to, Traction Control type system and Slipper system using engine management, not in the traditional ways the others have been using. The bike is super light (less than 400 pounds dry) and the Honda people claiming near 175 horses. They are saying no one will be disappointed with the numbers, except the other manufactures. We will have to wait till the end of the month to get the full facts or tales from Honda. The only good news here is that Honda is one of the few that are pretty close, if not right on with their claims. Then we will have to wait for the Magazines to test the Manufactures truth's or lies. (Yamaha's R6 redline tales ring any alarms.) Good luck holding on till the end of the month, I know it can't come soon enough for me. Well it would seem to me that the distinctives of the styling are mostly mandated by performance. As much as I like the symmetry of the undertail exhausts, I do sometimes get annoyed by my butt getting fried to medium well when things get too hot for too long on the 600RR. The shorter exhaust path is going to result in an increase in overall horsepower, particularly in the midrange during the climb to peak torque. Honda took a cue from Suzuki going to dual sidemounted shortened exhausts. The design on the '08 seems to provide the best of the dual side-mounted short exhaust while allowing for maximum clearance and lean. The look of the shorter tail indicates to me that there may be an overall shortening of the frame. That was a big innovation with the 600. I think they are redesigning the 1000cc engine to be more compact like the the 600. I would not be surprised if we see a wheelbase shorter than 55 inches on this new literbike. I would also not be surprised to see a rake less than 24 degrees. I also would not be surprised if the new 1KRR is 370 lbs. dry or maybe even less. The 07 600RR was 19 lbs lighter than the 06 600RR. So if the 07 1KRR was 388 lbs, I think if they mimic'd the lighter more powerful engine on the 1000cc scale, and we saw a 19-lb reduction in overall weight, the new 1KRR could be 369 lbs dry. I think we are in for a revolution in literbike handling. I am thinking that this 1KRR might just rip the head off a Gixxer 600 in a race from one end of the Dragon to the other. Also, the signals up high will reduce drag and save your signals in a spill if you have a decent set of frame sliders. I am all for that. The only design that seems to be purely a matter of taste and not performance driven is the flatter, more vertical front fairing. For that, they really have no excuse. Maybe they have better wind protection in mind. I admittedly do not like it as much. But the remaining features offer a certain beauty in that they tell us what perfect perfomance must look like. Overall, what is going to make the bike look different than all the others will be the exhaust, if you ask me. And I think I like it. If the colors are good, I think the bike will sell well. Paritcularly if the numbers are what I think they will be.

I don't think they will with the peformance numbers. They spend to much money on their factory racing bikes and sponsership monies. According to the manufactures, sales of their street bikes depend alot on what the race results are and the Magazine tests.

Baileyjn I'm not sure if you are saying the new Honda has a dual exhaust like the 07 Suzuki does, but if you are, I think the exhaust only comes out on the side we are seeing in the pictures. Single side exhaust.
