Just use the stock cbr1000 map that's on the power commander website.

I don't think it's spark knock. Every message board I've read says it's the camchain/tensioner that's making the noise. One of my buddies who had a 1KRR and had a GSX-R750 before that said that his Gixxer was much noiser than the Honda. He had an '04 CBR1000RR and his made the same noise as mine!

The odd thing about this noise is that it's totally absent from 0-29% throttle. But once I cross the 30% mark there's a sudden onset of this ping type sound that doesn't seem to get louder with further opening of the throttle.  I can't conceive of how the valves or cam chain could be the cause of this.  It seems unlikely to me, but I suppose it could be some kind of piston slap or knocking in the bottom end because the forces on those parts increase with load (throttle opening). I still think it's most likely to be some kind of combustion phenomenon or something related to the fuel injection / throttle bodies.

Hopefully I'll have time this week get my PCIII installed, and hopefully I'll have the same success RICHS65 did.

I finished the PCIII install (with Dynojet map for a stock bike) and took a quick test drive.  Bad news...  The engine knocks just the same as it always has.

I would try a couple of maps first to see if there are any changes to your problem. If that does not work, take the bike to the shop for them to look at it.  There is definatley a problem with it. No way it is normal for the bike to knock like that after a fuel managment system is installed.

One more thing enable the intake flapper back, just to make sure that has nothing to do with it.

Aren't you a little late with this? The results of the PCIII test don't rule out engine knock. The stock fuel delivery has rich, lean, and "just right" spots all throughout the RPM range where the knocking occurs. The real killer of the spark knock theory was the ignition timing test.

All you did was regurgitate baseless speculation about cam chain noise. It makes absolutely no sense that a cam chain, or any valve train component could make the noise under the circumstances I've described. If you want to really tell me something, provide a logical and technically sound explanation of  this cam chain theory.

Ok, how's this (below)?

My point is that I'm not crazy that mine makes this noise, either, but it seems that they all do it.

Thanks for the links.  I agree these engines are noisy, but I don't think the pinging sound that's associated with the throttle is cam chain noise.  The threads on 1000rr.net offer a variety of interesting opinions but don't really contain any technical discussion.

Yeah, I know, we're not likely to find technical info on message boards. I stopped worrying about the noise a long time ago, myself.  The engines in these bikes would be smoking or blowing up on a regular basis if there was something really wrong with them!

i have just brought a new blade ,and have the same noise that you are all getting ,and tried honda technical to get an explanation ,to no avail,i have spoke to some top technicians who build engines for b.s.b.and they reassured me the 1000rr was bomb proof .i have had a lot of bikes ,in my opinion this noise could be down to either the flapper valve in the air box or maybe incorectly set exup valve.it is pissing me off to.so come on honda get your act together and give us an answer.i am sure it shouldent be a problem for such a big manufacturer to sort a small noise.....otherwise i will have to trade in for another gixxer thou....
