They had a problem on their late 06's and early 07. My buddies was warrantied. I'd check into it.

I bought the 07 as well, thought it was fixed, but didnt take the chance and applied the heat tape that I bought from Home Depot. So, far so good.

Same story here. I don't ride in really hot weather, so I don't know if the apparent success is due to the heat tape or just the fact I've never really pushed the temperature limits. The "heat tape" I bought is really just aluminum foil with adhesive one side and no insulation. There's probably better stuff out there, but I figured anything that would help reflect the heat radiating from the exhaust system would help.

No, they had a problem with the positioning of the heating shields, and the plastics.

Had the same problem. It wasn't that the heat shield was misplaced or any  thing else like that. The problem was a faulty sensor that told the fan when to turn on and off. The stealorship, after much pissing and moaning, replaced the sensor and the fan, because they "counldn't test it properly". They also had to replace my seat cause one of the idots doing the work spilled some oil on it and discolored it. After it was all said and done, sensor, fan, seat, and lower plastics were replaced at no cost to me.  Now my fan kicks on at about 220-225 and off at 210 when at idle. Dont let them BS you into paying  for this. Honda knows its a problem and WILL take care of you. Good Luck

Before and after pic's of heat tape. It took no time at all to do since I was doing my first oil change and had the fairings off already. You can't see that the tape was added once the fairings are replaced. I didn't have a problem since my bike was brand-new. I just didn't want any problems and it was an easy fix.

I started noticing it on my 06 about three months ago.  Its not that bad yet. Just discoloring the Honda logo so far.

I purchased a brand new '06 1000RR this past April and I haven't seen any issues with any of the fairings melting.  But ever since I have gotten back from my trip to the Dragon at Deals Gap I have noticed discoloring of the plastic on the tail section behind the rear seat.  Anyone else ever heard of this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

So if my fan comes on at that temp range should I not have this problem?

Fan should come on @ 220.

Fyi: If you have factory blinkers it would save you time to do oil change/heat tape/lights/flasher relay all at once.

What's wronf with the lights/flasher relay?  Or is that optional if you're going to put in flushmounts?
