Well, this sucks. I just noticed that both lowers on my 07 1000RR are starting to show signs of heat warping. The left side (as sitting on it) is worse than the right. It's almost at the very bottom, near the straight edge. They both still fit fine, but I think when they get a little worse I'll take them down to the dealer and request new ones under warranty. They're damn sure not getting the whole bike.
I also noticed that the mids are getting it too - but not showing the signs of it on the outside. Those interior padding pieces, the ones that are like a fiberous material, are starting to melt too. I thought this problem was fixed on last years model?
Anybody else seeing this?

That sux.  I've got an 06 and haven't had any problems yet.  Hope the dealership doesn't try to find a way out of taking replacing them.

I've read on other threads to take that heat-tape stuff and go over your inner fairings to prevent this from happening. And from what I've read, it works.

hey dwhite645,
I bought the 07 as well, thought it was fixed, but didnt take the chance and applied the heat tape that I bought from Home Depot. So, far so good.

i dunno about you guys but when i spend $12000 dollars on a bike i don't think it's right that i have to heat tape the sh%t out of it.  my 06 hasn't melted yet but if it did and honda wouldn't fix it i'd definately be mad.

I have read about this happening and I have been told that the dealer will replace the fairing under the warranty.

I think they're suggesting using the heat tape on the inside of the fairings....taping the exhaust will create more heat to build up elsewhere.
Good call on the heat tape guys. I'm going to try that and see if it prevents it from getting worse. I can live with it as is, since it's not too bad, but just starting. I also agree that buying an $11k bike, honda's flagship sportbike, that it should be good to go from the start.

dwhite645, how many miles you have on the bike before you noticed the problem?

I just bought a 07 1000RR 2 months ago, I have just over 800 miles on it and have not noticed any problems yet. I should not have to put tape all over it, it is a new bike. If mine melts I will take it back to the dealer.

It's an '07 I got in the end of March and it now just turned over 3,000 miles.
NeverL8: You'll have to take off the lowers to put the tape on. As far as the mid fairings, they should be ok and you probably won't have to do anything. At least mine seem ok...some of the padding in there is a little melted, but no signs of the actual fairings melting....yet

What do you mean by heat tape? Anyone have pictures of the heat tape? Is it the pipe wrap stuff?
