I'm worried about over tightening the manual one.

I replaced the stock one about 2500 miles ago and the bloody things gone again.  I took it off and pumped it in clean oil and put it back on.  It was ok for a couple of days but then the noise came back.  Drives you crazy doesn't it!

I want to go for the manual one but like I say, I'm paranoid about over tightening and the damage that could cause but have no confidence whatsoever in the stock one.

I think as long as you do it by hand you should be fine.

When doing it by hand, you can really hear when you need to stop turning. The bike sounds really nasty when the screw is backed out. Another quarter turn and you're good! Definitely, a easy mod!

see heres the thing, i've never heard of a cam chain breaking on a honda, but all my friends ride to hard and don't adjust jack's on their suzies....they scrape the inner casing and shatter cam chain's religiously.....they don't listen either when i tell em why -jackfaces....

personally i think honda made their design so even at the most relaxed setting the cam chain will not "grenade" inside the casing.

Thanks for the input guys! Don't think I can return the new one (live and learn), but I'm definately gonna get the manual one when I've got the scratch. Other than the embarassing noise at start-up, it runs great. I'll just have to wear my helmet with the smoked face shield so nobody sees who owns the bike with the engine that sounds like it's disintigrating!
