I don't know who's in charge here, but hopefully someone with the power to do this will be checking this out.

Your for sale section is a conglomerated mess and needs to be cleaned up. My suggestions simple and can be done in a weekend by anyone who knows the software.

First off, split the for sale section into two forums: Bikes for sale and Parts for sale.
Second, REQUIRE pictures with all bikes for sale. Zero-tolerance here. Put it in the sticky that posts without pictures will be deleted. Learn to use your cell camera! Have the for sale mods receive a once a day list of new topics.

(pictures in the parts forum are not nearly as important, so those can go on as requested like always.)

oh, also.
non-descriptive titles MUST be edited or deleted. Eg. no "BIKE FOR SALE!"

requiring pics with high dollar things like bikes is just good practice, but if I had to rank importance, I would say splitting the forum would be a priority.

Although if there was even a sticky about requiring pics it would get a lot more people doing it.
(keep in mind i'm just offering friendly advice :)

I see what you are saying and I wouldn't waste my time considering if I wanted to contact a seller about anything if I didn't see a picture first.  But the thing is, not everyone on here is computer savvy enough to upload pictures and post them.

We offer the classified section as a "use at your own risk" service.  I know a guy personally that has a bike listed right now for sale.  He doesnt have a picture posted with it cause he feels if anyone is serious about buying it, they will contact him and ask for pictures.

Maybe for the bikes only. But definitely not for the parts. Most people I know don't care where the parts are located because they usually need them quickly and don't mind having them shipped.

And can we do something about people bringing old fs posts back from the dead?

i have split up the sections, adding a misc for sale section, as well as a "parting out or whole" section.
I have also made it so that any post in that section older than three months automatically locks.

Wow, outstanding response time. Much more intuitive. Still, I have a hard time doing business with strangers on a message board, but just having a want-ad/classified section makes the whole forum seem more professional. Thanks for being on top of it--now, can we do cash lotteries? Ha!

Ive also added a "Gear" section.

Spirit, I feel much the same way that you do about buying from people online, but my wife buys MANY things online, both from forums and from sites like ebay and craigslist.  Although she has never had a bad exerience, I still shy away from buying things online.  Also, with all of my sites, tens of thousands of classified posts, I get less than one complaint a month about wrong doing.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks and the change is awesome! Much easier to navigate searches now.

I do have another idea though... (I bet you just love me ehh? lol) Keep the parts, gear, and parts bikes as one section and call it parts and accessories. It's not a big deal, but think of it this way:

If someone wants to search for a jacket or a helmet, they need to search in two forums now, both the gear and the "parts bikes" section cause sometimes people lump their gear with their parts bike.
Same if they want to search for a handlebar. They need to search in both the parts AND the parting out.

There's only 11 parts bikes and gear threads anyway.

Again, it's great to see a community actually work towards better forum and I appreciate it!
