Just some advice... he says the carbs have been soaked but who knows if it was done properly.

I'd check all of the rubber/plastic pieces inside because carb cleaners can corrode those pieces.

Take both carbs apart and take the best pieces from each and make one good carb and send him the POS back in return!

Thanks for the advice again

I will have the carbs checked out closely by a Honda tech.  I will just pay the money once I have it.

Don't have the time to do it myself.     Just wanna get the bike running right and carbs are the key.

He kept his word!

The carbs and the rim plus a front tire are in!    The tire looks undamaged, just a few scratches from use but we'll see.   It's a 17 inch, Metzler.

Plenty of tread left.     Please tell me what you think.  Does it look okay?

What about the carbs?  Is there anything missing?  Thanks

NotNY I also tried the Goof Off today and it is magic!

It took off the age old black spots like it was butter

Thank you very much

I don't see anything wrong with the wheel or the carbs.

Hopefully you are very close to riding!

Glad the goof-off is working for you.  Be careful on clear things like windscreens though I've had it make windscreens cloudy before.

Also, before you put the carbs on, I'd take the bowls off and clean the jets out.  Should be super easy now that you have a set of carbs off the bike.  Carb cleaner and a very fine wire will do you good here.  The jets should just unscrew and then screw them back in once cleaned.

Where are the jets on the carbs?   I don't know what part that is

Thanks NY and I'll be careful with the goof off, it is very strong.

The jets are basically brass screws with different sized holes in them.  They are what the carbs suck the gas up from the bowls through.  They meter the amount of gas by the size hole that is in them.  If they are plugged (which very possibly yours on your bike are) you won't get any gas to the cylinders.

Beware the pilot screws.

These are the screws external to the float bowl, in picture043 you can see all 4 located beneath the throat of each carb, these screws have a certain adjustment (number of turns threaded out from lightly seated).

Do not over tighten the pilot screws OR the drain screws on the carbs, they use a needle tip and over-tightening will blunt the tips and they will leak or perform very poorly.

You can service your carbs without disconnecting them from each other, just remove the float bowls and one at a time clean the components inside (also clean the bowl itself, anything stuck to the sides will come loose) and keep track of everything you do so it can be reversed!

My guess is you're gonna need further help with this, I'm busy with my boat lately so drop me an email if you get stuck and need help :)

Thank you Hershey!

I will have to think about working on this myself.   I will just let Honda check the bike out front to back and top to bottom first, and then show them the carbs and get an estimate on cleaning/installing and tuning it.

I doubt they are as dirty as the ones on my f2.

I say save your money, do as much as you can by yourself and with the help of this community to get it running right. Then bring it to a tech to make sure it's safe, that way they dont try to charge you for all of the stuff you can do yourself!

I'll see what I can do Hershey.

Right now I'll just go and clean all that black paint off the bike and rims and fairings.  It's even a little on the right side of the engine cover

But what I am really worried about is selling our apartment.  Still hoping the buyer will come through and really take the place.  She is having second thoughts now.

More good news people-- my wife and I found a buyer for our condo and we are gonna be moving out next month!

We also got a bigger place, with 2 covered parking stalls.   Our current place only has one

It also has 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms and a small balcony with a neat view of a golf course.     And we're still living in Honolulu, so we don't get hit by a lot of the traffic which Oahu is notorious for.

Thank you Lord!   Our Christmas came early this year

well thats really good to hear man!!!!

p.s. to fix fairings, scrape/break the jagged parts fo the cracks, get a torch/crack lighter at the gas station then melt the surfaces back together, sand them down, cover with fiberglass short chop bondo, resand when dry and theyre ready for paint.

im in the middle of repairing an old set right now!

Great info thomasintexas!

Since I'm going the cheap route on this f2, I may just leave the cracks for now.

Long as they don't spread.
