If you have an air compressor and the proper fitting you can cut off the old grips and blow air in the end of the new grip and slip the grip on bar on a cushion of air then use your new grips right away. Or you can cut off the old grips and use soapy water to fit the new grips on but then it is suggested you wait 24 hours to let the soapy water dry. The new grips you buy should come with directions describing the soapy water method.

i replace the grips on my dirt bike and quad a few times a year and they both need to have the grips glued and/or wired on. are you telling me that the grips on streetbikes are held on by the resistance from the rubber and nothing else?

The grips (if blown on) are not given a chance to relax and stretch and stay put for the most part. If you want to use a dab of glue that will be fine as well. I have used the air compressor method for years and the grips would stay in place for about 8 months and about 10,000 miles before they started to rotate a little

when i replaced the grips on my 4 wheeler i cut the old ones off and sprayed the new ones with hairspray inside to get them to stick and it worked well and they havent come off since with some pretty serious riding on old coal hills. not sure if this will help but figured i would say something anyhow.

they just are tight so its harder to put on
when I replaced my grip I cut off the old one
and I used alchool for the new one to slide in better and waited few hours than they were all tight :D

Unless I really grip and try to turn them they don't move at all using the air method. I guess my motorcycle novice ness is showing because although I know racers wire tie their grips I thought the idea was to have a "positive controlled" grip on the bars not a death grip. That way you can feel what the bike is doing better like feeling the front start to slide out. I surely never envision gripping or pulling/pushing left or right hard enough to the point that the grip will start to slide off or rotate. I don't know maybe I am doing something wrong?

What kind of glue is recommended if anyone uses it?

Although I have never tried this; What about double sided tape and gasoline. Thats how I put grips on my golf clubs. Tape on the bar..a little gas for lubricant, slide the grip into place and the gas evaporates leaving the tape sticky again. Has anyone tried that?
The gas might melt the grips tho..thats my only thought. Golf club grips are not afffected.

Just a thought

I'v always used the soapy water trick as well. My grips have always stayed tight and in place afterwards. The only downside to this method is waiting for the water to evaporate.

I actually had to use WD40 on the end of the grip because it was sticking too much on the bar where the throttles doesnt move

I couldn't get the hold grip on cause the grip glue was drying so fast that i couldn't.........used hairspray for the other side, worked fine......

honda sells hand grip cement for $6.00 if you cut your old grips off and use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface then cut the ends of the grips off put a thin layer of glue on the inside of the grip and on the plastic throttle sleeve then slide it on. you shouldnt have to work that quick, just make sure to clean the excess off so it doesn't bind the throttle. it will take a day to cure but after all that the grips will never move.sucks bad when grips rotate.
