I was talking with a tech at one of the local bike shops. He was telling me that if I cut the bottom part of my air intake to make the air go straight in instead of traveling the U, it will give me some extra power. Well, I cut the plastic which only took a few minutes. Duct taped the plastic where i made the cut. And about a half an hour later, I was up and running. It feels like it gave me some more power and my exhaust is louder. Has anyone tried this?

Get rid of the duct tape! It'll clog things up if it ever lets loose.

I'm confused...what part of the intake can you cut, and what u? Air goes through the intake vents, the triangle shaped airboxes, then through the intake tubes....am i missin something?

That said, when i had all my fairings off for paint i wired the headlight up and rode around town with it totally naked, and you could hear the thing suckin air like it was it's job. Could also notice a big difference in the amount of pull it had.

When you rode without the air intakes it pulled harder? I wonder if this mode is similar to the resonator bottle on a car. You cap off the resonator and it provides a direct flow of air to the throttle body.
