For those of you who have visited our site www.cbrzone.com , You know we are a leading supplier of performance engine parts for Hondas. Please feel free to come in this forum and ask questions about performance engine parts, etc. Please keep it geared to motor stuff. We will do our best to keep you informed.

TJ, who will be here most, is a Willow Springs racer as well as a Track days instructor. And one of the order desk guys here at APE (cbrzone).

So go check out our site, then lets talk piston kits, ported heads, cams, etc.

Jay

I have a question, what are the benifits in HP and overall performance with changing heads, and cams etc. I geuss what i'm i'm saying is i'm looking to turn my CBR 1K into more of a beast and just want to know what to expect when I twist the throttle with these type mods.

Heres another question for you, i use my bike for all purposes, Track and Road. Waht`s the situation regarding Valves and Valve clearances, whats the best way to make sure there kept in good order. Also if i changed over to racing valves etc can i expect the life expectancy of the engine to go down?

Thanks,

Jay at APE -- yep, believe I've heard of you and your stuff. I'm thinking I got my HD springs and clutch stuff for the old busa from you guys. Excellent stuff and service. Glad to have you here!

It's impossible to quote horsepower numbers. Even if I knew your current configuration and proposed upgrades, I could only attempt to get close. With that said, you could probably expect about 6-10 horsepower. If this sounds low, it is. That's because, though you're increasing your motors ability to breath (good), you're not pushing more air via an increase in cylinder pressure ie bigger pistons, higher compression, etc.... It's like putting Lance Armstrong's lungs in Rosie ODonnell... great to have but they'll NEVER be used to their potential. Personally, for big power, I'd go piston kit first. Even if you're racing, you could go stock bore, high compression and still stay within the rules.

Hi Anubis, keeping up with your valve adjustments, etc., is the best way to make sure all is well in your valve train and I'm sure you're aware of Honda's tensioner issue so I won't even go there. If you're talking about switching to titanium valves, I wouldn't bother on a street motor as performance per dollar spent would be quite low. The only reason to replace your stock valves, in my view, is if they're damaged. Otherwise, run what you brung and save your cash for one of my autographed posters!

Sorry Cj,
I've been going to the wrong forum and wondering why there were no questions for me there - go figure. Hey, cut me some slack, I'm only fast AND smart on race weekends
