ORIGINAL: crashkhanman I know the stock rear tooth count on the CBR600RR7 is 43. The front has slipped my mind but it's either a 15 or 16th count sprocket. If you're trying to stunt the bike -1 +2 will work great. But if this is your first bike I would take more time to get to know it but you dump it. Remember Cover that REar Brake! wrong stock gearing on a US spec 07 600RR is 16/42 Thanks Baxsom... and this whole time I thought I was running a +2 sprocket. . Gearing is 16/42 and I'm running a +3 in the rear.

Gixxereater was merely pointing out the truth. It takes a Very Skilled rider on a 1000 to keep up with a skilled rider on a 600. Sports Rider Mag ran the new 07 600 up against the 1000gixxer and 1098 duc. and the 600 came in second place by less then 2 seconds behind the gixxer.

damn, get off of the soapbox. it depends on the track as to wether or not which bike is faster. on a track with long straights and sweeping corners the 1000rr will come out ahead . on a small super twisty track the 600 will leave the 1000 behind just because of the weight difference. what good is 160hp when you cant keep the rpms up long enough to use them. i have ridden on both kinds of tracks and seen the difference. besides. its just easier to buy both bikes so you always have the best bike for whatever track you are on.

Yeah.. you'd think this would be obvious to people.

ORIGINAL: gixxereater I've also had my plastic sucked off by AMA race prepped 600RR's by CCS champion level riders. ...I'll try not to suck the plastics off next time... J.K. , I don't actaully know you but I'm sure we've probably been to a couple of the same track days in the past (your a MN guy right - I know I;ve seen the scren name on the MSBR forum). But what I think gixxereater is getting at is that 99% of the time the better rider will be faster, not the bigger engined bike. Not only is this is true on the track but the street as well. I ride by 98 Ducati 748 on the street and ride with a lot of guys on modern 1000's. Keep in mind my 748 weights at least 30-40 lbs more and only makes 94 HP, yet I can pretty much eat every last one of them on anything short of a mile or longer straight (granted I am the only one who actaully races, but a few of them are advid track day guys).

I ride with Busas, zx14's and 1000's to, i ride a 600. What happens is they pass my bike on the straights and i pass them in the corners. +1 on the sv650, not fast at all, but at tracks around the world many guys on 1000's learn how their riding skills really measure up. Learn to squeeze every bit of performance out of your bike at a track school and track days, if you don't pass squids on bigger bikes then get a bigger bike.

To answer the original question...if you're looking for sprockets, you can usually find kits online, and usually at a decent price - under $200. If you're looking for more 'around town oomph' try dropping a tooth in front (to 15) and gaining a couple in the rear (try +4). Kits usually come with the front and rear sprocket, and a good chain (stick with RK, EK, DID chains, Vortex, Driven, AFAM, Spike sprockets). If its too agressive, you can put the stock chain and rear sprocket back on. Keep in mind that most of the kits will come in a 520 pitch (width, basically) for less rotating mass (your bike comes stock with 525), and a lot of the rear sprockets are aluminum for the same reason. Durability kind of takes a hit, so keep an eye on wear - both the sprocket teeth and the chain, and keep it clean and lubed. If you look around you can find steel sprockets. The advice some of these guys have dished out is kinda harsh and I hate the verbatim rant that people get when they try to ask questions, but they do have a good point. I know you're haning with some serious muscle, and riding with big bikes can be frustrating at times... but with practice and investing in a performance riding school, you'll be able to school them, in the city, on the highway, and the track, and feel all the much better because you're on the smaller bike. I've been riding a newer R6 all year, while many of my friend's have picked up R1's and K6/7 Gixxer 1000's, but believe me, when you're dragging a knee around a 2 lane corner and passing your buddies on the outside, you'll feel like Jesus must feel when he's passing his friends on the outside.

You'll have a lot of fun if you do -1/+2, imo. Just don't run into my car when you're practicing your wheelies "around town." And start saving your money for fairing repair. ;)
